Has anyone cleared out the stuff behinde the intercoolers. was thinking of moving the washer bottle to the boot, and does the rad exspansion bottle only collect water that has been pushed out of the rad ?

thinking of getting more air flow through the coolers.

cheers chris

I've had exactly the same thoughts in the past and never got a real answer. I also thought about moving the battery to the boot and perhaps having an expantion chamber for the rad in the vacated space left by the battery.

from what i can see from the manual, the expantion bottle only collects the water pushed out and does not draw in,i could be wrong on this, was thinking of adapting an aftermarket oil catch tank? if not was thinking if moving the expantion bottle to where the AIV's used to be ,loads of room there

Mine is done,it makes a massive amount of differance in allowing full air flow through the cores.Picture shows where the bottles are relocated;)

MAC did u use the old xpantion bottle? and what did u use for the washer bottle

Not quite correct Chris - the coolant in the expansion tank also gets sucked back into the radiator as and when needed. As the coolant heats up it expands. The excess is dumped into the expansion bottle. When the coolant cools off it is sucked back into the radiator as and when required. For that reason, Nissan suggests that the expansion tank contains a minimum of 600ml coolant when the engine is cool.

from what i can see the xpantion bottle only connects to the small pipe at the top of the rad cap?

I will ask Peter when I call him later on in the week.

Yes thats correct, the rad cap is a two way valve, it blows out water at a certain pressure and sucks it back in when the coolant creates a vacuum when cold.

looks like a little job for the weekend, think the washer bottle will fit behind the panals in the boot

I think it's a good idea to resite the battery mate and it does free up a bit of room :)

Upgraded mine and put it in the boot:

Whats that then......you doin mine chris? :D

what can be done with the carbon cannister?

It can be removed :)

Once gone you're left with three hoses: the larger one runs to the top of the fuel tank and the other two go to the plenum. That pair can be disconnected from there but I believe you can't block off the other as it prevents the tank releasing it's vacuum.
