Oil Boiling?

Drove back from work on friday, got stuck on the motorway doing 10mph for 1 hr in stupid hot temperatures. got home opened the bonnet an the sound of somethin boiling from the plenum area. no sound from the rad so i guess it was the oil. no is this normal or really bad.
