Hi guys, hope you can help here. If you are looking at the Zed from the front, on the far right hand side at the front of the car. After I'd stopped at a shell garage to fill up with Optimax, I let it run for a minute or two, turned her off, filled up, paid, then came back to find shit loads of liquid on the floor under the car. I got down to have a look and it wasn't drippingor anything, only a couple of drops, but it was very worrying. My water temp guage was almost at the bottom, whereas normally it's around a quarter of the way to a third of the way round the dial. Apart from the low boost she was running fine. I didn't know what it was but carried on, and it hasn't done anything since. Does anyone know what the hell this was and is it something I should be losing sleep over? My water temp guage still isn't reading a very high temp, very low in fact, then it will go up, then down again, I was only boosting around 5-6psi all day. After this dumping of fluid I took it easy all the way home, and am a bit worried to be honest... After having a look under the bonnet it seemed like it was around the area where the coolant bottle thing is, although I have no idea what it is or what to do with it, so thought I'd come and ask you guys.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Cheers,

Kay.

Sounds like your rad expansion tank tipping out surplus water Bud,normaly caused by topping up rad to much.Check its dip stick front right bottom corner. If to high syphon abit out till level is correct.Should do the trick for you.

##EDIT##....u beat me to it vinz :slap:

The Expansion tanks is where you described.

Probably just let a load go just for the fun of it...

Ive been told the Zed will do this every now and then for no reason but I im not so sure.

No smoke without fire n all that.

As for your gauge going up and down its your temp sensor(the small sensor fitted in the front water pipe...next to the larger sensor for the ECU.

A loose connection causes this...clamp up the spade connector a bit n pop it back on...that should sort the reading out.

As for why it blew...

I havnt a foggiest idea mate.

Im havin major water probs myself at the mo.

Replaced water pipe few months back after loosing some water gradually.

Then it moved on to another pipe.

Now i think the water pumps fooked and the pipe near the tubs buggered as theres a large pasty white mark on it.

Oh well....Im off to Ztech for repairs..lol

Dont want to sound like al doom and gloom but,

The epansion tank will only overflow if it gets over full (obvious really!!)

1st and cheapest possibility is knacered rad cap, water can force up under it if its knackered filling the expansion bottle.

But my bet is a perished hose somewhere, the hole or holes in it can often be too small to let water out or such a fine trickle that its evaporate before it hits the floor,or sometimes only leak under a load so when you look for a leak its not there, but when your on the move loading the engine it leaks, but these holes dont just let water out, they let air in, which displaces the water, thus causing the excess to be sent to the expansion bottle.

When my water pump went, or rather the seal around it did, it only leaked on the move and then only sometimes, when you stop, no leak, but when you shut it off those leaks in the seal woulds suck air in, causing the system to bubble up and make the bottle overflow.

Hope this makes some sense to everyone, i know what i mean, but probably not worded it very well!!

The only other cheap explanation can be that with the weather getting warmer the water gets hotter than usual, thus it expand more and takes up more MASS (nelson) thus some of it becomes surplus.

HTH Good luck, i piggin hate water leaks!

Might be Air con if you got it.....??

And i sat around twiddling me fingers waiting for monday. Bit of a pisser on monday as i feel so guilty making ryan and greg work on a bank hol. bit in the word of snitsky on WWE ITS NOT MY FAULT LOL.

i had same prob mate , mine dumped a few times after journeys and turned out tto be a very very small hole in the matrix hoses at back of engine , Only found it out cos one day they went totally on the motorway but if they had never done that , id never have known what was causing it !! But water poured out my expansion tank everynow and again !! So replaced hoses and no probs since !!
