Noticed my Z had started to puff a little blue smoke from the drivers side exhaust. I havent paniced yet as its due an oil change. Ive been reading past threads and come to the conclusion it may be the PCV valves. I read this off the Dallas doods:

'The PCV valve may fail in either a closed or open position, usually due to clogging with oil sludge or dirt. Failing in the open position causes hard starting and rough, low speed running. Failure in the closed position causes buildup of crankcase pressure, which can force engine oil past seals, gaskets and other openings in the crankcase. Most likely through the rear main seal, or blowing out the dipstick on the Z32. '

The other thing is that i noticed that an oil leak had started somewhere to the rear of the engine. Not dripping just seeping. Also i have the slight smell of burning oil when the bonnet is lifted. What does everyone think??

How much are these valves? Where do i get them from??

Cheers

Johno

hi bud i got a quote from my local nissan garage for pcv vales and they are £22 each but a right bugger to fit, although i had same prob of smoking on tickover from both exhausts and a little fluid loss mine was down to needing a oil change and the oil filter had came slightly loose so was loosing oil through the seal so i would say try a oil change first kev

Got mine replaced in February at Peter's. I got my replacement PCV valves and hoses from ZTech, think they were about £65

Drop Baggins a PM, he'll let you know the price.

Are you coming up on Sunday? (Stadium Of Light @ 12)

Priced around 75 from mike @ MJP.

Bugger to fit.

You will probably notice that it will smoke if left to tick over for a while, will then clear with a bit of driving and return when left ticking over again.

Theese are for the crankcase ventilation (PCV being Positie Crankcase Ventilation).

I would do the oil change first TBH as it would be a waste of money to replace PCV's if not required and they are not the easiest thing to do...

there not a bugger to fit took me 45mins for both side piece a cake you just have to move alot to get to the valve and the right tool for those stupid clips on the hoses is always handy !!! also you need to seal the new ones in i used wurth pipe sealant as it sets where there is no air ie the threads and stays soft on the outside

also its wise to get the hoses for the valves as its alot easier to run a knife down the old ones and pull them off and if your pcvs are dodgy then the restrictor in the hoses is probably partially blocked aswell

if your rear main seal is slightly leaking,it wouldnt be certain pcvs would cause main seal to blow also overfilled with oil can do this, the smell is probably oil dripping on to the hot exhausts or downpipes
