I don't know how familiar you lot are with rust on your Zeds but I have a real problem area. Its were the rear bumper joins the rear wing on the drivers side. See the pic below.

I wouldn't mind but it can't of been more than three months ago that I got it sorted the first time it went. After a clean and polish yesterday I have noticed some bubbling again:(

I have spoken to the body shop who sorted it for me first time around and they say that there must be water getting in somewhere. I don't know where though seeing they waxoiled it all to stop it coming back.

Any idea where the water is coming in to cause the rust?

Thanks,

Justin:)

any closer???? :ttiwwop:

I'm not being funny here, but if it was a reputable body shop they should do the repair again for free. I dont think they did the job properly in the first place, any decent shop would have sorted it out in the first place ...

You really shouldn't have this problem coming back .. get them to sort it out properly.

mine has gone there aswell, body shops usually just scrape the rust off the top and bodge over it. There may have been water still trapped in when they painted it

Hence they should have done a proper job in the first place .... or am I missing the point or something?

I have tried taking a pic but its so hard to see at the mo. Its in its very early stages but its on its way back.

In the bodyshops defence I use them alot and they have always been very good.

The rust was so bad when it was first done that they actually cut the rusty bit out and welded in a brand new bit of steel. I guess that puts the whole bodge job explanation to rest I would think?

I wasn't having a go at you mate, but it does annoy me when bodyshops fob you off with bullshit .. They should have done the job properly in the first place, unless there is something we dont know.

Like .. please do the job on the cheap ...

hmmmm .. strange ... that is what they should have done ...

well I dont get it then ...

Mate i have this as well....i have just bought a replacement arch ready to be welded from Luke @ http://www.zcentre.co.uk for around £55 i fink it was.

They should have cut the metal out to be honest. If you buy one of these arches at least u knw u have fresh metal already shaped.....so then u should push for them to put that in for nothing....dunno just an idea.

Dan.

LOL, no worries guys. A bit of banter is always good:D

I just wish I knew where the hell that water is coming from. The bodyshop didnt really know when they fixed it the last time.

Yeah, I told em that but they were not having any of it! They are the experts I guess!

Anyway, I have just taken the rear wheel off to take a peek behind the arch. Could not see much because its only troubling the outer skin it seems. I have noticed though that the two skins only seem to be held together by spot welds, leaving some gaps between the welds where water could maybe get between the skins.

Anyone know if all zeds are spot welded like this?

I'm just about to have both rear arches and sills done on mine, it was already done once, before I owned the car. What I have noticed is that this area seems to attract lots of crap that doesn't always get washed off when washing the car. I don't know if this is the reason it rusts around here but it seems as though this is the cars 'achilles heel'. My missuses Almera is starting to go in exactly the same place too, a nissan coincidence???

I have to admit that mines a UK car though and everyone knows they rust faster!!!
