I have read a few posts on this subject , but what are the benefits of fitting the above to a tt , and what does it give you , better acceleration , less top end ??????????????????????????????

It would be a good if you'd made significant modifcations that would result in more top end power at the expense of less bottom end. For example, large turbos, high lift cams, enlarged throttle bodies - then the gear ratios available to you would better match the output of the engine.

Effectively, if you made the swap, you'd have a close-ratio box, similar to those found on high output na cars where it's important to maintain high engine speed as you go through the gears. - Think of Honda Vtecs.

If you haven't done anything this significant you're better off staying with the TT diff. It's already matched from the factory to best suit the torque curve of the TT engine.

That's the technical anwser from a performance point of view, from simple driver enjoyment it might be another issue altogether!

Also, consider your driving. If you do lots of high speed stuff then you'd definitely be better of with the TT diff. If you do slower speed stuff with lots of acceleration then maybe go for the NA one.

As a final point, I think it'd be fair to say that switching diffs will hurt your fuel economeny, too.

ok, Well i have the n.a ratio internals in my t/t diff its a 4.10 ratio with an aftermarket replacement ring and pinion. The stock ratio is 3.69 . I do have bigger tubs , injectors ect. The acceleration is excellent and far more than it was with the t/t ratio's on. Yes you do lose a bit off top end , but you can still do around 160mph which for me is fine. I have not noticed any difference in fuel comsumption but the biggest difference is that you have to change gear seriously fast or u hit the rev limiter. But its an excellent mod.

Cheers for your input , I think i will stick with the tt diff for now

Thanks Noel

makes 1st gear even more pointless!!

to be honest mate , not noticed that much difference in 1st its when the tubs spool up and come in that it makes all the difference.

I must admit the NA diff is one of the best mods I have done, it changes the whole nature of the car and makes acceleration a lot more exciting :D

Where did you get you ring and pinion from and how much was it???

I bet it was great fun setting the pattern up!! :D

And even more wheel spin potential :D

Just bunging the n/a diff in is alot cheaper and a lot less hastle then setting up a ring and pinion, ;) right!!!

Not that easy mate !! ,You cant just swop the diff, This is a comment from speciality Z..."U need the . rear NA sub frame, power steering pump, misc. lines etc), and is labor intensive and results in weaker gears (1" smaller in diameter) and axles, Also The NA axles are prone to breaking - especially when using aggressive tires for drag racing."

If your gonna do the mod , your better of getting the internal ring and pinion changed on ur t/t unit as its alot stronger. Here is the site with the info on the gears :

Yes ive used these before...you also need a ring and pinion overhaul set which include's callapsable spacer/washer and bearing set and you will need some pattern grease and this is not an easy job like people think it is...

LOL!! do your turbos not work in 1st then?!?!

yeah they work fine in 1st just dont seem that much different from the t/t diff till u get in 2nd really, then it really kicks in.

Good job it was all done for me then bud !! i just had to turn up and get mine swapped over. Ryan did all the hard work .

The most important thing is to set the backlash up correctly or you will end up with a horrible noise and problems down the line, we use are engineering shop to build them as the tolerance's are so tight like a thousanth here and there makes a big difference

Exactly Ryan!! :D
