What is the mph per 1000rpm in top on an auto? Mine shows about 2700 @80 and I thought manuals were geared about 25.6mph/1000 - according to the autocar road test from 89. So is it the rev counter or the speedo thats out or my arithmetic?

are you running it in overdrive as mine seems to do a bit less than that but not much

Willie,

my gearing is about the same. I think it is about 30mph/1000rpm in top. Was the autocar test on a "new" 300ZX? I thought they weren't introduced until mid 1990. I read on a US web site (can't find the URL now) that some Euro 1994 cars had a 5 speed Auto.

I found out it's about 28mph/1000rpm in overdrive and 25.7 for the manual.

Theoretically this means 5500rpm @155 for the auto if you could ever do such things.

The roadtest report I have is for a manual from Autocar & Motor dated 16/05/90

It also means the auto can do over 200mph with the stock gears while the manual can't.

My manual non-turbo does approx 3400 revs at 80mph, which equates to 23.5mph (my old Z31 was only doing 3200 revs at 100mph!)

I think the import cars have slightly lower gearing, due to the lower speeds in Japan.

What about the import Auto's though?

I have an import auto and it does 85/86 at 3000 revs
