Hi, Im new to all this, i've just sold my car and I really want a ZX. I dont know too much about their flaws and age differences unfortunately so buying the right one is rather difficult. :x:

I know that im after a Twin turbo, but I dont know what age to go for, wether to go for a T-Top, UK or Jap spec, 2 seater or 2+2.

Can anyone help me with this, are there any types to stay away from? Would really appreciate some help from people with the experience and knowledge. :bow:

UK Models (89-94)

2+2 Twin Turbo T-Top

 

Jap Models (89-2000)

2+2 Twin Turbo T-Top

2+2 NA T-Top

2+0 (2 seater/SWB) Twin Turbo - T-top or Hardtop

2+0 (2 seater/SWB) NA - T-top or Hardtop

 

Convertable 2-seater - NA only

 

The most common is the 2+2 Twin Turbo T-top

The Rarest is the 2+0 Twin Turbo Hardtop

 

All our avaible with Manual or Auto gearbox

Climate control is standard

Leather is optional

 

- Japs come with 225 wide rear tyres. UK's come with 245 wide.

- Jap Auto's ideally require an uprated Oil cooler for european roads (less than £150 for the conversion)

- Uk and Japs have slightly different Hicas 4ws settings (but nothing to be of concern)

- Japs have Electric Folding mirrors.

- Japs imports are generally more common and usually have lower mileage (if genuine).

- Uk's can be cheaper on insurance, but have to watch out for Rust/Rot from years of UK weather.

hi Rob - welcome to the club.

its all down to preference - good choice with the TT ;)

T-Tops are very common - there's the odd hardtop and softtop going around but they're quite rare.

UK spec is generally more favoured, although IIRC there tends to be just as many JDMs as UKs on this forum. benefit of JDM is (on average) less rust, less mileage.

2-seaters are not as common as 2+2s and are very slightly faster due to the less weight.

At the end of the day its your preference as to whether you want UK/JDM, 2/2+2, T-top or hard/soft-top. The most important thing is the condition of the car itself when you find it. There's a buyer's guide on here somewhere that's packed with useful stuff. HTH.

So if i aimed for a UK spec 92-94 Twin Turbo. Manual Gearbox, T-top. 2+2 I should have a good over all Z, providing I aim for good condition and low mileage?

TBH Rob the year doesnt matter. yeah you'd think that a '94 would be better than an '89 but like i said it's down to each car. manual/auto is up to your driving preference - both are great and the guys on here will argue till the cows come home about which is best ;)

Also can anyone tell me about deCat'ing. I know its an MOT failure, but if pulled over by the blues and the vehicle is inspected and the CAT's are found missing, what would they do? fine ? Got a friend who wants to DeCat his skyline but doesnt know if it'll land him in the crap.

All cars newer than 1992 must have cat fitted. However the Zed does not appear on any MOT test data sheets, and therefore has be tested as a non-cat car if its older than 1995.

 

I have mine gutted rather than replaced, and so there would be no way of the Police being able to tell, even if it was illegal.
