I've seen the light! Auto = Arse! IMHO

I don't want to start the old Auto vs. Manual thing off again so let's get that straight from the outset!!!!!! wink.gif

But I've spoken to a few guys who are technically worthy of advice today and the fact of the matter is this...

Z auto boxes aren't upto it! Plain and simple!

Not just Z's, Supra Autos are the same, hey the Autos can't take the power.

If you wanna go the 400 bhp + route or even less then the standard auto box is gonna crumble big time in a short period of time!

I've been converted, what more can I say? Just my opinion by the way so don't take it personally wink.gif

I love my Auto for what it does, lazy driving basically and I'll stay with it. But the Manual cars can take much higher BHP increases in their stride whereas the Auto falls at the first fence! Fact of life biggrin.gif

Not saying much more, but I'll see how mine performs after the rebuild and the mods get slapped on(waiting in the wings) but I don't have alot of faith!

By the way, me and the Bro wonder have been debating this...so can someone answer this for us?

Q. What exactly do you get when you get the "fast road rebuild" on yer auto Z???

I know they uprate the line pressure but what else do you get for the 2.5K????

Cheers guys

You guys on here are the best, when most would be like "what the fuck are you moaning about?" you guys admit the shite! biggrin.gif

Oh this place is the best, these cars are fragile to say the least but I like the fact that most will admit that...BIG F**KIN' REZPECT!!!

Nothing worse than people who are like...oh yeah it's your car is a lemon and an arse car etc.

I'm here forever!

Can't wait to meet more of you, Jeffs post was great on the Auto vs. Manual post etc.

If it wasn't for this forum I'd have got shot ages ago! TOP PEOPLE, TOP FORUM, TOP CAR!!! wink.gif

porkies in all...

Looks like quite a few of you are being told porkies.

Fallacy #1 - triple plates. Who says you need a left leg the side of a trunk they (well at least the OS Giekin Triple Plate) are NOT and I repeat NOT heavy on the leg, trust me I know.. I've driven one a couple of times. An OS Triple Plate in our TD06 Z and a twin (i think) in a R33 GTR.. but something was up with the GTR clutch, it was all weird feeling, had been installed wrong. What Triple Plates are finnicky about is their bite point.. you have to be smoooooooth to slip it.. they're almost on/off. They are fucking expensive though.

However a 2800lb single plate will be a struggle to drive and you may break a clutch fork.

Fallacy #2 Auto Gearboxes blow at high hp levels. Try a NOS fed T28 Turbo'd 2+2 Z with an owner who lit it up every 2 mins. Did something like 50-60'000km between rebuilds. Hows that ? The biggest killer of autos is static burnouts. If it's rebuilt with a bigger cooler, a few little tidbits inside the box and regularly flushed it will hold together.

Basically go hard until it blows. I'd be more worried about keeping your engine intact than transmission woes..

Now that's how I want my Z.. smile.gif

Cheers guys for all the constructive input.

All digested and taken on board and feeling a bit better now, just pissed at having the car off the road again biggrin.gif

As the Mrs. Turbo said, once this is done nothing else can go for a while. Car has virtually been rebuilt!!! wink.gif

You'd better break it to her gently about those prop vibes then ! biggrin.gif
