I work as a contracts manager for a major named security company and today I recieved a call from a smaller rival company offering me a job of the same grade but for £5k more a year and a better car + perks. Should I go for it or is it better the devil ya know

Tell your boss you like working for him, want to be open and honest. Tell him about the offer and ask if he can match it.

I just handed in my notice today....after 20 years service.....ended my shift with my manager telling me thats me finished up and not to work my notice.....my manager is a young high flyer within the company....but as the saying goes if you are an arsehole you go places...if you are good at your job they dont move you...

My thoughts would be to go where the money is as loyalty etc is out the window nowadays and management etc dont give flying f*** for anyone...all they care about is balancing the books..kinda sad me thinks.

Enough warbling from me....time for a few beers to celebrate my new job.

As they say look forward not back.... cheers John Crisp

If they say no. Ask the new co. can you pay 7K more than I get now? If they say 5K is all we can pay then at least you had a go. But defo jump ship for 5K

That is good advise.

I've just been made redundant recently, and although I am working again I turned down a few jobs (money reasons) and I am not happy where I am working now.....

In other words m8 I know your head is up your arse with decisions like this to be made.

Talk it through with your gaffer if he is a good bloke he will respect you for it.

you say smaller company i would weigh up the pro's con's, is the company you work for a reliable company, and is it worth taking the risk with new company that because it is smaller that the job will last long enough. not putting a dampner on it its just thats what i would think of (get 5k more for lets say 3 year or get 5k less for 10 year) hope this helps
