advise needed

Got a problem with the Z and not sure whats going on.

The little red warning light to the left of the 'doors open' warning light comes on. This is an import and the symbol looks like a little turbo with fumes coming off it (sounds bad already) and this is accompanied by horrendous misfiring. Originally I thought I just had bad connections to the coilpacks causing uneven running, but the running has got worse over the last week and now the little light comes on (though goes off if I lift off). Any advise gratefully received.

Some one asked about this a few months ago.

I think the symbol is the CAT temperature light, I think.

Some one will help you more

Yup, that's the CAT temperature warning light. Not a good sign..

Either, you're running very very very lean so the exhaust gas is incredibly hot - so that could be injectors perhaps.

Or you're running way rich temporarily, so unburnt fuel hits the cats and burns there.. So that would most likely be coil packs or PTU..

Try and ECU diag, see if you get a PTU failure show up (code 21), or if you can, try swopping with another PTU..

That's where I'd start, at least..

This was happening with Raz's car and it was sorted by cleaning all the connectors in the engine bay.

Easy peasy lemon sqeazy.... biggrin.gif

Coil packs aren't firing properly - hence the unburnt fuel getting to the cats and cooking them. Two reasons can cause this - first is bad connection to the coil pack, second is a buggered coil pack. Pull all the connectors off the coil packs and check the metal parts are nice and clean - if they're green then you've found your problem wink.gif If they're all ok then its probably a dodgy coil pack.... You can find a dodgy coil pack by disconnecting each one in turn, until the engine doesn't drop in revs - then the one you've just disconnected is the dodgy one...

Hope this makes sense - this Stella is making me write dodgy shit biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
