now dont get me wrong, i love this motor, but when you come off a roundabout (st albans one coming to m25 junc to be exact) and you floor it at about 35 when a 330d beemer is slightly ahead of you, im thinking surely a good condition standard zed should waste it surely? Seems not as i was to the floor today and i was struggling to keep up? Is there something wrong with my motor...i dont mind wasting 3 times the amount of petrol but i would like something to show for it!

Any ideas anyone?

the 330d would waste you tbh, they are very quick, if you have any doubts then go look at the gumball videos on http://www.antandpete.co.uk ;)

Is quicker than a 330ci (petrol) in some cases, slower in others. But not Zed performance.

30-70mph through the gears

Bmw 330d - 7.9 secs

300zx - 5.78

the 330d will kill a 330 petrol mid range. went on a bmw race day round rockingham and my mate was in a 330i and i was in a 330d, i murdered him pulling out of the bends every time

i was pulling off a roundabout..prob about 30....then i floored it and he just kept pulling then i just thought dont bother im wasting petrol and id have to prob hit 90 before i started taking him...i didnt use 2nd

I think from standing start the 300zx would beat it its just the kick down sometimes doesnt feel like it do anything

The 330d is pretty fast due to low down torque but as already pointed out 30-70 comes 2 secs faster in the ZX.

Although with the ZX power coming in a bit later, I'd guess 30-50 would be pretty even but after that you should be pulling ahead comfortably.

I've been up against a few decent big engined turbo diesels, 330d included. If they get a head start, or you hold back cautiously on a wet road then you'll have to really push a stock ZX to catch it. But keep your foot down hard you'll pass it soon enough.

I had a tosser in a 330d tailgating me last year on the M1-M18. Each time the road cleared I floored it and left him for dead. When traffic got heavier i slowed down and used the correct lanes for the junction - typical BM driver just carried on driving like a w@nker and cut everyone up at the junction.

Keeping good lane dicipline until I was well onto the M18, he got ahead of me but once the M18 cleared I showed him 4 clean tailpipes

Mind you, a BM tuner has a decent chip upgrade for the 330d that knocks 2-3 seconds off the 0-100 time. That could be a match for a stock ZX tt in the mid-range :x:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

ive just been readin gabout them..apparently theyve got more torque than an m3...im confused....torque but 204 bhp...and mines supposed to be 280 bhp but less torque....its all so strange...still..mine only cost 4k, his mustve cost 30 at least :)

The zed has more torque, but the Bmw max torque would be reached much lower down the rev range.

Scarey isn't it? Oil burning Diseasels that can munch a Z! I don't get it either, 350Z can be slapped by a Z32 but a Z32 can be cained by a diesel. WTF is going on?? :D

LOL, come on guys, a standard TT zed would demolish a bmw 330d! The bmw only saving grace is that it has 288lb ft torque! It does 60 in 7.8 top speed 141mph only has 184bhp and it weighs a bit more too.

283 ib/ft for the Zed, with an extra 100bhp than the Bmw and a bit lighter.

The zed is lighter than a 3 series? Geez thought the only thing the zed was lighter than was a sherman tank or GTO

The zed is 1520kg for 2 seater the jap TT Manual I got that figure from the Nissan promotion video, and 1575kg for 2+2 . The BMW 330d is 1580kg figure taken from BMW web site.

The zed gets slated for its weight, but its only 10kg heavy than a SupraTT, and its lighter than a R34 and GTO.

Robert, do you have a TT or N/A? If it's a TT you sure your not in safety boost?

well my turbo needle was all they way to the right and my foot was stuck on the floor?

bottom line is technology has moved on aint it..so it is how it is....i reckon we'd beat a lot from a standing start but i think the 50-80 pull isnt amazing and i never really did in these..maybe its my motor but for a twin trubo i always expected a bit more...i put it down to age....

You could be right m8, I supose when the miles start to add up and things wear out the stock power drops too, but I doubt it drops by 100bhp.

Get you car on a rolling road and check what your kicking out, the mechanic will also tell you if there is anything wrong with your car.

Robert mate,

I reckon something is wrong with your Z.

Mine auto TT is stock apart from an induction kit and (since last week) a Blue Flame exhaust and 50-80 it is damn good. It overtakes loads of cars on a twisty a-road without effort and the 50-100 nothing this side of a modern supercar really comes close.

Like Homebrew says, get it checked out. It should fly in that speed range - it's what the ZX is best at.

Richard :(

get the car serviced, run a bar of boost chip decat zorst pulley etc,and there aint much on the road that will catch a z FACT for the money anyhow :) with the spare change you can pay for new tubs when the seals go LOL

well ryan seems to think its all good which was good enuff for me...and i dont think many people drive more zeds than him..maybe its also a bit of getting used to the car, but i just sometimes drive it and think im not accelerating that hard at certain speeds....anyone know of a rolling road in hertfordshire?

It's all about the area under the power curve, not the highest point (unles you work the gearbox and clutch to keep the revs at peak power). That's why the Z32 beats the 350Z (which is lighter and equally powerful).

That's what makes modern TD very fast and easy to drive quick.
