have any of you guys read this. looking a different zeds people sell, some people say they have 300bhp and some say 280bhp. the book says jap models were 280bhp because of the manufacturers in japan had an agreement to limit outputs to 280bhp. auto models in the us had different cams and feul injection settings but it says the uk models settings were because of our low octane fuel. im wondering if there is a way to get it to 300bhp without to much trouble, it cant be as simple as putting a higer octane fuel in could it. would running 101ron give you 20bhp just a thought

The so called "agreement" in Japan to limit output to 280bhp was made in the mid-90s after the introduction of the ZX IIRC.

With J-spec cars they could well be 300BHP as all high performance jap motors are quoted at 280bhp but in reality may be much more - I mean

is the Skyline R34 GTR really only 280bhp????? I think not! ;)

UK spec was 280bhp as it was set for running on 95RON unleaded. A simple filter and exhaust upgrade on a UK car could see 300bhp without too much trouble, as the stock set-up in these areas is quite restrictive.

i was told you can de-cat a 300zx even after 1993 (when all cars must have a cat) is this true and is it worth doing. as for the r34 i was told they are 280bhp the ecu does this but there is an upgradable ecu you could get from nissan (i think nissan) which when you plug it in you get close to 400bhp

i think the R34 V-spec is 320bhp, but im sure there are no engine mods - just a small vent in the bonnet, some brake and/or suspension work etc. i'd suspect a standard R34 may in reality be more than the quote of 280.
