Best price for a JWT ECU?

Now that I've managed to get a reasonable insurance quote to have my TT import chipped, I need to go out and buy a JWT ECU.

How much did you guys who were in on the last group buy pay? Also, how did the shipping work from the US? Did you have to pay import duty, etc?

Thanks

What GB? biggrin.gif

Dave you can't just buy them off the shelf over here, you have to ship yours to the US to JWT with a deposit and pay up wink.gif

Check on their website for the exact amount, is your current ECU socketed?

That's basically what they are chaging you for, to socket your ECU and provide the chip.

Some people from this forum did a group buy on JWT ECUs either early this year or last year.

They bought them from the US, but I can't remember who from (Ultimate Z, I think) or how much cheaper than normal it was and the search utility is still f*cked. Craig! smile.gif

I should open my ECU up and see if it is socketed, I suppose. Maybe I've got a dodgy Jap ECU and never realised... smile.gif

Dave, yup is was from Cos Ceh at ultimate Zed. I seem to think it was somewhere near $500 for the chip and jets and $600 for the core charge. He sends the ecu, you fit the new one and send the old one back.

We had to pay shipping to one address to share the costs then Nico posted it on.

I think we avoided VAT but we did have some trouble but Nico never asked for cash so i assume we got away wit it.

I would give him a ring and see what deal he can do for you. Or ask who else wants to go in with you.

You could always go the Unichip route. I have no experience of these myself, but from what I hear it is the ultimate compromise if there is such a thing ! I understand that it piggybacks the standard chip and they basically use the standard maps on the Nissan chip for all the usual boring stuff, then they use the maps in the Unichip anywhere that changes need to be made. Advantage is that it can easily be reprogrammed if you make any dramatic changes and it's dead easy to return to standard. Disadvantage, as I see it, is that the performance/quality etc of the modifications depends totally upon the skill of the installer. So you need to understand the technical compentency of the installer with whom you are dealing.

I know some of the MR2 boys think this is the biz, don't know of one on a Zed, but have seen whisperings of it on the Aus forum, where they are also very keen on the Hitec (Hiteq ?) chip.

I have got a unichip on my Zed, would seem I am the only one on the planet to aswell!!!. The reason I went for this was it is possible to remap it as Andy has said. Cost to buy the chip and have it installed was £450.00. It made quite a difference to the performance. Within three weeks the car chewed the stock clutch up and spit it out for arse paper. New clutch will be needed whatever you go for. Did the intake and upgraded the oil cooler when I had mine fitted aswell. I would recommend one but JWT seems to be the fav among the Zed owners.

Good luck with your choice Dave

Seez ya!!
