Hi,

Recently purchased a Car Alarm with Remote start. I want to fit it myself, as I have a lot of other Interior stuff to do at the same time, and having studied the instructions and wiring diagrams Im confident I can handle this myself.

However there is one problem with the installation, that I guess is down to the relatively unique zed ignition setup.

Please see wiring diagram below. It refers in two places to the "High coil", which I take means Ignition coil. But with the zed having 6 individual coils, and a PTU..Im not sure what to do.

One wire must be wrapped around the coil, and another needs to be fed to the positive connection on Coil.

My guess is that it uses this connection to the Coil to check when the engine is running rather than to actually start the car, since it has a direct feed to the igntion switch to be able to remote start the car.

Anyone got and ideas on how to deal with this for the specialist Zed ignition setup ?

Thanks

Why don't you give Bob at Safe and Sounds a call? his number is 0800 5422875. I'm sure he could point you in the right direction...

What year is the car ?

Hi,

Its a Series 1, Jap Import, First Registered in 1992.

(possibly manufactuer in 1991, according to date stamps on seat belts..etc)

Sorry forgot to ask the make of alarm

You are going to have problems with that alarm on the Z. basicly that wire has to be wrapped round an HT LEAD which makes it act like a receiver.

Very basic way of doing things, but if alarm cant detect vehicle has started it will keep on cranking.

All of the top make remote start alarms pick up off rev counter wire or speaking from fitting lots of remote starters to Z's i always use one of the injector wires.

you can contact me direct on 07981381186 for more info.

Best rgds,

Paul.

what about wireing in to the spark plug coil, not 100%sure though! a grey old bird told me ;)

mr bling where are you

Legrath,

The most common way of wiring in the ignition coil to the alarm for remote start is to any one of the coil packs.

The coil packs have 3 cables to each one 12 +volt ignition live, an earth and a trigger wire.

The ignition live is used to tell the alarm if the ignition is on or not and the trigger wire tells the alarm if the engine is actually running or not, when the alrm cranks the engine it looks for the trigger and has usually a preset time in to crank for, hopefully the engine fires and the alarm knows from the continued ( and more rapid ) trigger signal.

Now as there are so many alarms out there, then your particular alarm may or may not be compatible (most likely is though) what is the alarm make and model? maybe BOB can be more definate.

Hope that helps.

Thanks guys :D

Jeff, that helps, I have an auto electrician friend who is going to take a look tomorrow, and that info will come in handy, thanks :)

!!DO NOT CONNECT THAT WIRE TO ANYTHING!!

It acts as a receiver, that is why you have to wrap it round HT lead several times so it acts as a pick up coil to tell alarm that car is running.

If you bare back the sleeving on this wire you will notice that it is only a single strand wire and not multi strand like all the others.

Connecting this wire to something could damage the car, the alarm or both!!

I am an alarm fitter with 13 years experience and have seen this system loads of times.

Best Rgds,

Paul.

Thansk Paul, can you recomend a way of using this on the Zed setup ?

Wrap it around one of the Spark plug coilpacks ?

It also mentions another wire in the diagram, that says should be connected to the Positive connection on Coil.

It would be great to use the Remote start feature of the alarm, but if not I'll just have to miss that bit out of the install :(

Thanks,

David
