Hi guys

Guess What, my ZX TT has been going fine for about 3 weeks, and as soon as we hit May and Jap fest is soon, it starts playing up!

Here are the simptoms which I really need to get sorted ASAP. I havnt done a ECU cose check, as one, I dont know how too, and secondly at the moment untill the end of the week I have no internet access at home!

I took the car out the other day, going well, let it warm up before booting it etc. Took it down a long straight and it didnt seem that quick? Ok upto 60ish, but a bit lame around 100, (my vectra 175bhp Turbo would have left it for dust)!!!

I then noticed it was getting very hot! The needle was on the H!!!!

As I sl;owed down to around 50, the temp guage slowly dropped to half way. Then when I went to change down to 2nd as I approached the roundabout, the engine stalled! Restarted fine and drove normally. However every time I hit the throttle and give it a bit of boost, the temp goes up, almost as quick as the speedo!! This time over the H!!! One other symptom, it that the heater in the car will not blow hot air, just cool/warmish?

I also noticed that when ever I accelerate, when the turbo spools up it sounds like someone is playing a flute or recorder under my bonnet? However this is a new thing that only happened the last time I took it out. I thought it may be a stone in the intercooloer, but wouldnt have thought it would make this noise?

Yesterday I let the car run on the engine for a while, for around 15mins the temp stayed in the middle range, the fan cut in and out a bit, but still no heating? Then the revs started to go up and down, like it was going to stall?

After a further 5mins I looked and the the temp had rocketed and the electric fan was on constantly. And this was with the bonnet up. I switched off to notice the rad cap bubbling!!

The car has plenty of water, are there any water/air bleed screws for the heating/cooling system? Air lock?

Hope you can help guys!

Karl

By the way, this is an manual Twin Turbo.

as legrath my diagnosis would be head gasket rather than air lock check oil for white sludge and check water for oil deposits the other common head gasket prob is white smoke out of the exhaust also when cold take the rad cap off and see if there is any pressure in the cooling system anothe tell tail sign hope this helps kev

havent u just had a load of work done by zedworld mate? Also if the h/g had gone it would overheat everytime you ran it

It could be overheating causing detonation - top up the water and check for airlocks and see how it goes.

Karl if you tell us where you are based then maybe a kind member can pop around and give you their opinion!

If the heater is not giving you hot air it can mean there is no water in it, plus the void created by this means that vaporised steam causes the temp senders to jump in temp!

First thing to do is to fill the radiator from the rad cap and not the reservoir, not teaching to suck eggs here I hope!

The bleed screw for the rad is on the top driver side of the radiator, if you have got a ramp or hill this can help this process, park the car with the front higher.

Run the car with the rad cap off and bleed screw out and every time air comes out refill it with a 50/50 coolant water mix and replace the rad cap but be warned some new rad caps don't sit properly on an old radiator!

It could be the head gasket but eliminate the cheapest/easiest options first ;)

it might just be a air lock mate.

when i had my car done at ztech after a quick spin the temp went up after filling the rad up loads of air came out and its now sorted and working fine
