Hi Young Man,

Not a vet, just a regular orthopaedic surgeon, perhaps I can help?

Not hijacking the thread but I wouldn't mind some advice if you have the inclination and the time.

Do you have an email address I could possibly contact you on?

Sorry Mat ... back to your thread.

Hiya, maybe you can help, my puppie had an accedent on saturday morning, (managed to jump out the upstairs window) and had broken its back leg. looking at the X-rays (have them here) looks like a epiphyseal (growth plate) fracture (i'm not a Doc or vet, just from what i think it is with a little research) the end apperes to have broken off and twisted around 10 degrees. Just wondering if this could not be manuverd back into place and then set in a cast? the darn insurance ran out 2 weeks ago and we are moving so lost the renewal papers.

The emergancy vet says that it needs an op and mabe wired. or lose the leg (really dont want to do that, and the vet says that fixing it would be better) any advice?

Thank you sooooo much for any help :D

Cheers mathew

Hi Matthew,

Sorry it has taken some time to get back to you. I showed your post to a colleague and he also agreed that your dog will indeed need an operation, and urgently, which will most certainly entail either pinning or plating, and will require further surgery as it gets older. Losing the leg is not an alternative as the trauma of such an operation in a puppy would indeed negate its chances of survival. I wish I could have been more positive, but wish you good-luck and hope he/she recovers.

Hi Chris,

Fire away, if I can be of some help, though I would only be able to generalise. You can get me on cd22dc@btinternet.com
