Hi All

I saw a silver 96 Zed today in eastleigh Hampshire so i pulled in and had a chat to the Driver..

We had an interesting chat about the Zeds and what mods have been done..

I was amazed to have been told that one of the mods to his Zed was instead of Spending loads of cash on Bovs!! he has had his recircs Venting to the atmosphere instead of to the intake pipe???? I was amazed and confused about this...he did not show me of course but assured me they make the same simular noise as aftermarket Bovs but not as loud and irritating??

And do the same job...

Is this possible? I know in theary they could work as i understand how the recircs do there job, but they have no baffle/outlet/cone?

This Guy cannot be the only one who tried this?

I certainly have not tried it i do have bovs i have not fitted to my zed yet.

Is it worth it if the recircs can be moded to do the same i wonder?

Got to be worth a try :nana2:

Phil at C&S Wood has been thinking of this for a while.

He told me when the recircs go, he will try it.

It was possible on my old MR2 Turbo as i did it as a tester and it made a really loud noise, all i did was pull one of the pipes from it and block it up, so probably the same on the zed but just got to know which pipe :) , dont know how safe it is though??

Main problem is that if the recircs do not fully close at idle which can be a common problem with old stock recircs then the afm will have a corrupted value and the tick over will be unsteady.

I have tried this with a few sets and found them all to be leaking, without dismantling them ( very difficult ) it is hard to say if this is due to wear or was Nissan design feature?

Air flow meters make it worse when compared to map sensors, main reason why piston type bovs are now common place so as to retain a stable tick over.
