can anyone please help me? i have a uk tt manual. it has a noisey top end, i have driven the car (150 miles) it has been 110mph , i was standing for a while so i hoped it may have been a blockage that would clear it self. i have had the oil changed i have put some hydraulic lifter treatment in too. this did quieten things down it only sounds like a diseal now instead of a tractor! the garage it is at say it may be an oil starvation problem, however it has good oil pressure the sump is not damaged either. if you remove the oil cap with engine running it appears that no oil is making it to the the top. i am pulling my hair out here. if i cant fix it to cheaply i will have to sell it to someone who can, this is not an option i would like.if you can shed some light on this then please email me.. jason.bate@btinternet.com

cheers

oh and one more thing when i open the oil cap i can see oil coming up and by the way my car was stood for about a year is well

IBRAN, will do mate no worries

it sounds like your hydraulic lifters are shot, this makes for a very rattley top end, the treatmment will help (as it did in your case) but the only real solution is to replace them, but it aint cheap as there are 24 of the little buggers and the ones on my mitsi were 30 odd quid each :)

Take it for a bloody good drive .. It could get better, especially if it has been standing for quite a while.

DRIVE IT.

Actually I didn'r realise you had taken it for a drive already .. bugger ..

I take it back.. sorry.

I had a V8 in a boat, and it needed to get properly hot to clear the lifters out after it stood for a while.

It was your post that reminded me, so it did some good, and maybe it will work for him.

It did need to get HOT mind.....

it passed its mot yesterday! so i am going to drive it for a while and keep my fingers crossed

been driving it now for a week.all i have done is changed the oil(twice) and it seems to be working! it is getting quieter and quieter. i am indeed a happy bunny again.

IBRAN.... drive it change the oil and let me know how you get on.
