Hi all,

having a bit of a problem, and thought someone might be able to shed some light on the situation :)

My Zed won't go over 140. I've tried it with OD on and off! Took it to my Local Zed place (really helpful btw - Samurai Performance) and they kindly put the Conzult on it, did all the tests, came up Code 55. No history of errors either. He did a cylinder test and all that, things that I had no idea what it meant lol.

All that happens is that it gets to 140 bloody fast, then hits the rev limiter, the dump valves make a sound like a train lol as it hits the limiter. It feels like it needs another gear. Weird!

It's not like I do over 140 all the time but me and my pal in my Old Manual were having a little play with the Zeds last night and I just hit a brick wall at 140...

Any ideas guys? Thanks in advance! :D

Godammit! And I thought I was dealing with some nice people there... Who's car was it? Maybe they can give me their opinion?

I think they only just moved to Braintree, so it can't be the same one can it? They were based in Chelmsford before... Now I'm having doubts!

They quoted me 2 grand for replacing the turbos for stage 2 ones, and replacing the big ends and the mains. Is this not a good deal? Now I'm thinking it's a bad idea to go with them, only reason is it's closer than Z-tech, it's a 3 hour drive to Baggins, and thought it would be better on Fuel to go to a local company. They even said Nisstek were getting a bad name for themselves!

When I took it to them, as he was checking it out I look over and the car is chucking out blue smoke from the exhausts as he's revving it from idle, which it had never done before... I trusted him as it seemed they were a nice bunch of guys there... So then he's telling me my turbos are on the way out and they need replacing, and may as well get them done while I get my big ends done...

Shit.

You can try Scot at Redline imports near southend, i have all my big work done there. Nice bloke very helpfull and knows his stuff. Some other people on here use him too and not heard anything bad about him.

Do a search.

Mate I would seriously stay away from them. They are the same garage just moved recently to new premises. They are scum as far as i'm concerned and you can tell them that. If you can get their side of argument I'd be most impressed. Just ask them about the wide bodied supra. This poor girl paid upfront (well yeah I know) for agreed work. She hasnt had the car for nearly 2 years and eventually got them to release it, it needed 4K to put it right. The opinion of a decent bodyshop was that the work (that they had actually done:()was substandard and basically crap.

Plenty of people on here can point you to a decent Z place but please dont give these ****ers any more business. Actually they are ****ers and scum IMHO only:D

Well, was it only bodywork or mechanical work she had done? I'm mainly focusing on mechanical here. They are putting some mesh on for me and respraying the front bumper for me, and that's gonna cost me £150. Now I'm thinking are they gonna charge me £300 or worse!

Man, just when I thought I had a result with these guys coming to my home town as well...

Well. Looks like I'll be making the trip to Baggins then. I'd rather go to someone who has always had good reports and I can trust to not screw me over. Does he offer a lift home when you drop your Zed off? lol ;)

No, but he does/did have a Astra Courtesy car ...or take a pick from the other dozen or so Zed's parked outside ;)

I bet that hurt :D

If you hit the OD switch during normal cruising do the revs vary? It may be electrical because my auto used to do this very occasionally and it turned out to be the switch itself.

If you're talking 2 grand I'd drive the three hours and use the fuel to get it to Baggins. I don't know him or Samurai but from what I hear on here you can trust Baggins and if you're spending serious money that's worth while.

deffo take to baggins mate , ive had all my major work done there and thats now past the double thousand figures and he has always gone out hisway to help , he comes highly recommended ....by me !!! and tons others on the forum bud. Take it to someone who you know, knows his stuff and who WONT rip you off!! and yes the courtest astra is lovely !! LOL

If this garage told you you had to remove the engine to do the big ends and mains they were telling porkies. It is quite easy to do this with the engine in the car.

You can do them with the Engine in? Right that's it. These blokes can't be trusted, they said they had to remove the engine to do these...

Sorry about the garbled post, I was quite "ahem" merry after getting back from Town last night lol Man my head hurts :smash:

I think I'll get the bumper repair job done by them and deffo go to Mr 300 aka Ryan when I can get down there.

Thanks for all your advice guys :)

p.s. and no it was GREY ;)

I am doing mine at the mo, although its a long story. About 1.5 hours to get to the bearings, from first jacking the car up.

TBH its then that the fun can start. On mine I seem to have an incosistency in the bearing sizes and the stamped sizes. Had to buy a micrometer (arrives next week) to measure the crank to figure it all out. But if not for my particular problem (I might of course just be acting dim) half a day will see it done. Subject to having the bearings in stock. And as long as the crank is OK.

Overdrive not working mate. Its more than likely the switch or the selenoid.

Check your fueses first. I'm not sure if it has a fues, but something in the back of my mine is saying it does.

Then again I could be talking complete *****cks and confusing the whole issue.

lol ok mate, thanks :) I'll have a search round. Would be awesome if it was just a fuse... under a pound for an extra 40+ mph is a good value "mod" lol

I might give Samurai a go. I just don't know now... I want to trust them as they seemed like good blokes, but it only takes one negative report to put doubt in your mind doesn't it...

Dammit I wish I lived near Z-tech lol

Funny thing is Overdrive works at the lower speeds... hmmm

I would think if you drove it gently and worked up to high speed keeping an eye on the rev counter and an ear open you would know how many gears you have and if OD is working.

LOL! "wont go over 140" Shit! what you gunna do!, I mean fookin el!
