As an ex-physicist, I think we should have Newton's birthday off as well.

Every day should be a holiday! Two day working week with a five day weekend would be OK with me...oh hang on a minute...I pretty much work that way anway! LOL :D

But i agree, it should be a national holiday!!

Nice to see everyone being so proud of a Turkish Saint!

He is patron saint not only of England but also of Aragon, Catalonia, Georgia, Lithuania, Palestine, Portugal, Germany and Greece; and of Moscow, Istanbul, Genoa and Venice (second to St Mark). He’s also patron saint of soldiers, archers, cavalry and chivalry, farmers and field workers, riders and saddlers, and he helps those suffering from leprosy, plague and syphilis.

A true multicultural saint for a multicultural England.

You are! http://www.stgeorgesdayevents.org.uk/news_and_events.shtml

The only problem with having a public holiday for it (which I agree we should have) is that it would not be on St George's Day. It would be on the nearest Monday which sort of takes the shine off it a bit. IMHO it would be much better if Public Holidays were on the right date.
