Just went to fit mine (again) as i got an ebay one and the belts wouldnt fit, so i got an sgp one with belts from smithy. BIG problem, the powersteering belt wont fit - its too short

Just wondered if we are doing something wrong, as this was the same with the ebay pulley we tried to fit aswell

Is there a way to get it to fit ?

Im sure its the correct part - and we have taken the PS pump off to give us more play - but it still wont fit !!!!!

Please help - as the car is in bits infront of me now

yea i know this mate - but i told smithy the details before he sent it - so by rights it should be ok

I hope

These are some belt sizes for a light weight underdrive pully that was bought from the US.....:-

1 x 3pk 890

1 x 4pk 980

1 x 4pk 920-930 (+/- 10mm)

A company called CPA should do these.....check for a dealer near you at:-

http://www.blueprint-adl.co.uk

On the other hand My lightweight underdrive pully from the UK off of ebay has these sizes:-

K040390 1005mm

K040365 945mm

K030350 905mm

To be honsest I havnt fitted mine yet so i dont know what ones I need for definate yet?....by the way mine is an jap import.

All I know is that the alternator/water pump UK belt is longer than the JaP or US version.

I hope these can be of some use but i dont have the definitive answer.

sounds like the pullys are different sizes depending on what one you buy.

Will check the belts tomorrow mate - but i must say (ive just got in from "testing") car goes miles better now, much better up around the 4500 rpm upward mark

Well chuffed - thanks Smithy for the bits

Put on chromed rad pipes and a few more underhood EL lights too

Absolutely awsome

Thanks again Black Magic - like i say will check belt numbers in the daylight

Mike

Do your belts squeal at all? Mine do and its getting worse. Tighten it as much as i dare and i think its too tight now.

you can buy spray to go on the belts but not sure what stuff it is.

Probably dodgeing the problem putting that on anyway...must be a reason for it squealing...wrong width belts??... too loose??...or just too tight...as above

in short...

i dont know... :(

sorry bud

i'll get me coat :smw:

Looking at your part numbers mate, i'd say your air con one was a little too short, maybe that's why it's squeeling, what made you go for those belts in particular ? and just curious, what brand of pulley you got.

Also for yer alternator it depends if you are jap or UK spec as the UK spec uses a slightly longer alt belt and different to the numbers below.

Gates PN# '90-'93 TT: 040350 '94+ TT & all NAs: 030350 Power Steering

Gates PN# 040390 Alternator

Hi Smithy!

ok squeeling wise, if i put the heating to max (ECO mode) it squeels it head off. i went for those belts because i have a friend who owns a motor factor and i took a load of belts and tried them until they fit. took back what didnt :D

Its a UK spec car and it definately seems to be the alternator belt squeeling as I can make it squeel by turning on heating (ECO mode). The car does have air-con but it needs re-gasing as its not cold..

Whats even better is starting my Z at 6:00am in the morning and waking everyone up.. But thats a personal pleasure :D:D
