hiring a ferrari for a day in italy ? learn f1 in france

guys sorry for being completely amazingly randomly off topic but hopefully I've helped some of you out with your cars so hopefully favour returns.

After being woed with tales from Italy I've decided I want to go there in September next year, and one better than that on the 15th of september I turn a quarter of a century old (and you say good how ?) the good I can see is that my ass will be firmly in the drivers seat of a 348/355 droptop if funds and evertyhing else permits for a whole day.

Now I have no quams with paying upwards of 1000GBP a day to hire a Ferrari and drive round the hills of northern italy. I couldn't afford to do it for more than a day... because on my way home I'd want to go the Formula 1 day school in France (can't remember how much it costs but it was a suitably spectacular amount)

So questions

1) is it actually possible to hire a Ferrari if you're 25

2) how much ? am I too far off the mark at 1000GBP ?

3) do Kiwi's have a reputation as being utter mad bastards thus limiting my chances for driving a Ferrari. Do I have to claim to be from somewhere else ?

4) or am I crazy, should i be spending the money on my home theatre system.

5) or do you when you turn 25 get all old and wise like the insurance people reckon and buy a house ?

You can hire a ferrari in italy, hell ill even drive down to meet you.

The roads near monaco are the best you can get when it comes to driving in mountains, and i know ive been to many parts around the world and none come close.

A nice trip to maranello and then up to monaco would be very wise.

Your a kiwi the last great hope for the southern hemisphere wink.gif

The f1 thing is a bit of a waste of money from what ive heard, youll be far better of driving something like an f3 or f3000.

If you want i can get all the details for you.

LOL.

Rowan, I had exactly the same idea as you. I was 24 at the time though. They will let you rent a Ferrari at 25 (or 24 if you have been driving for more then 5 years I think) but you MUST book in advance. Mind you, this all varies depending on company. I had no idea so got my hotel to phone around for one that would let me have one.

When I got to Italy, I thought I could just go get one on the day - BIG MISTAKE. It was at the time of the San Marino (Imola) Grand Prix so I dont know if Ferrari home GPs spark this off but there was a 3 week wait for a 355 and a 4 month wait for an F50 (and if you have to ask what an F50 costs to rent for a day, you can't aford it! biggrin.gif). A 355 will cost you about £700 - £1200 a day so its in your budget, just. Be careful about the small print. I was reading some and on the exotics, some of them will screw you for loads more money if you do extra miles.

My advice is: try to arrange the rent whilst you are at home (maybe get your hotel to arrange it in advance for you). Leave plenty of time to organise it so you can find a company that will let you rent one. Also, dont forget to take the Ferrari on a trip back home to Maranello. I need to make a second pilgrimage soon biggrin.gif

See ya,

Andy

I would have thought the Ferrari would only be half that amount for the day.

I'm sure you can hire a 355 here for under £500.

Must be cheaper over there surely?

wow..wahhoooo....yeahhhhaaaa..... going to bed dreaming about that shrill scream of a Ferrari V8 tonight !!! Couple that with a mental Formula car experience and I think I'd just about explode with excitement.

Awesome thanks guys. Warren could be a plan to catch up.. talk via email later on that one.
