NZR CD writer questions

Thinking of getting a CD writer for my PC. Firstly, which is better internal or external? thinking of getting external cause its more portable. My PC seems to have 2 different type USB plus in the back, should I get a CD writer with USB or some other connection, also what sort of Read/write spend is up with current techology.

Do I need to remove my current CDRom drive to fit a CD writer? if so can I still copy CD's?

Get internal - much cheaper. We do burnproof 24 speed ones for £89.. External USB ones always slower due to port restrictions and expect to pay at least twice that of internal.

Keep existing CD Rom.

usb port maxes out at 1.5 megabites per second transfers, meaning it'll max out at only 4x, but really, only 2x will be really reliable.

external is only good if you plan to take it everywhere, and have a laptop and etc, something for the serious business man or computer animator, not for the average joe.

internal is cheaper, faster, more reliable, and with internal burn proof technology which helps eliminate buffer under runs (main problem in unsuccessful burning)

I have a yamaha 20x burner with burn proof technology, and I love it, burns most all my cd's in under 5 minutes, and never wasted a cd yet. Yamaha and Plextor is the best you can get from all consumer reports and from personal experience. Plextor is the only one you can burn in raw mode that i've seen (meaning you can copy playstation, dreamcast, xbox games)

I bought my yamaha since I'm retiring my days of hardcore gamer, my Z is my life now wink.gif

Ah but what about USB2

Supports 8 times no probs

We have internal and expteranl at work and i suppose internal are better and cheaper.

Go for a liteon 24 speed job about £90 delivered from www.dabs.com

Burnproof too so if you've got a nail of a PC it'll still burn okay without shagging your discs up.

They do a 16 speed one for about £70

Bit of a piss take really cos my first one cost about £300, it was 2 speed and crap.

16 speed is probably enough at the minute cos there aren't many cheap 24 speed writeable discs around yet, but I suppose it's only 20 note more for the pukka 24 job.
