Just met a guy round at a local garage. He's just bought a 1989 Jspec auto and he ask mr what this button was. I had to tell him I haven't got a clue ,but its bugging me as to what it is.

so you can move the shifter when the engine is not on ;)

It's the manual release for the auto shifter. As in, if your engine isnt running, press the red button down, press the normal shifter release, and move the shifter :D

Makes easy access for when you want to remove the radio surround.

Aahh Never seen that before. Is it on all Jspec cars. Didn't have that on my UK spec auto.

Think you may be right there, as it's not in the UK Owners Manual either ;)

yep, i had it on my jap autobox. useful for putting the car in N when i had to push the car out of the driveway without waking my neighbours up at 5:45am! :p

strange,

mines an import, does have that switch but i can still shift gear when engines off.

also when i'm driving i've got to push it down if i want to shift it into first. As it was imported in 1998 could possibly mean its had the autobox taken out and replaced by either ..........1. an idiot who didn't put it back properly.........or.......2. a guy who wanted to stop himself ramming it into first from drive giving him a nice kickback in his seat, and ultimately wrecking his autobox :wack:
