Where has the general election thread gone? I was typing a long reply and when i submitted it, the thread was gone :( Anyway - my reply was
Fookin hard decision. I HATE politicians, I HATE the form of Government we have, but who the hell do you vote for to stop the vote being wasted?
I really think that the British form of government is way past its 'sell-by' date. All the BIG things are in place (and have been for years), and all that is left are detail changes. This is why Parliament is trying to interfear with every aspect of our every day lives. They are just trying to justify their own existence.
The whole place has become a gross caracature, desperately holding on to power, acting like sheep rushing to and fro, from one 'head-line' media story to another, all fighting for space on the small screen so they can vomit forth the 'Party Line'. It's like watching precocious school children.
I have clear views on solutions to many of the problems we face today, but none of the Partys cater for my wishes, and none of the leaders (or the sycophants) inspire any confidence in their abilities what so ever. If I was 'recruiting' for the position of government I would not hire ANY of them!
So, the dilemma. Do I vote for Tony the grinning spiv who can deliver a good 'presentation' and gloss over the blatant inadequacies, or Howard, a FAILURE from the previous time the Tories were in power who heads-up another group of shirt-lifting morons. The Libs seem like a NICE bunch, but I wouldn't want to trust them with running anything more complex than a local leisure centre.
DON'T get me started on UKIP - they really are a useless bunch of Daily Mail readers let loose on society.
So, after all that, I still don't know who to vote for. Now that the cold war has ended, barriers have come down, and the main partys are no longer polarised in the majority of their views I guess its a case of "Same shit, different colour logo" :(
Someone had the thesaurus out this afternoon
Very vaid points though, the UKIP wouldn't work as a political party, they just want to isolate the UK from Europe for the purposes of protecting the Pound Sterling. In fact European trade is doing us the world of good, except the subsidies which we have to pay into "the kitty" for redistribution to Spain.
Although New Labour has the leadership potential, their methods are questionable and Tony Blair's agenda also. The Tories arn't really an option, Howard doesn't have leadership potential at all and would cripple under pressure. Tony isn't much better at dealing with pressure, but he is very good at taxing us into oblivion.
Under the Tories in 1997 on average out of every £1 we earn we have around 42p to spend (after tax, council tax, NI, VAT, fuel duty, tobacco duty, alcohol duty etc. Under the current Labour government we now have 22p to spend which means we actually spend 20% of our income the rest goes to the government, and then onto other parties (schools, hospitals, roads, parasites etc.) so who would we be better off with (considering tories don't want to reduce tax as such)? Tough call !
