NZR - PC internet Attack

I am getting attacked all the time.

So far today I have had 1070 attacks totaling 184001 attempts and probes on my computer most if not all on port 1214.

Any ideas people?

How can I check if that port it open?

I have ran Norton 2001 and it has found nothing, and it is upto date

Stuart, have you got any file sharing utils on your computer such as Morpheus or Winmx??? This is just a thought.....

BTW, was it you who got the Sills made up for your car cos I'm desperate for some....

CheerZ,

Andy

How do you know you are being attacked ? Are you running a firewall, if not I'd recommend Zonealarm.

I you are being alerted by a firewall then it's just doing it's job.

What is the source of the attacks ?

99.9% of the time the incoming connections are coming from either your ISP or other things you are connectted to. VERY unlikely for 1070 attacks!

The attacks are going up all the time. I have file sharing program but it never causes attacks.

I have BlackICE defender.

Yes Andy It was me who had some made. Very solid, its was only the back quater of the rear sill. Is that what you are after? If so I will ask the person who made them for me and get a price for you.

I have emailed Blueyonder asking to change my IP, so that might happen in the next 5 weeks

CheerZ Stuart. It is mainly the back end of the sill that I need but would be interested if there was a possibility of a full length version to be made up....

Thanks again,

Andy

Stuart,

For a quick safe check of how secure you are, go to grc.com and click the link within for "Shields Up". There's a couple of tests you can run which will give you an overview of your security.

CheerZ Raz,

Just looked at the site and ran the test, I passed all of them, so all in all my computer is safe. This MUST be some sort of server error.

Thanks for your help

ran test as well - says I have a 'stealth port' ; well hidden a impossible to get in!

so why do I have so many pc faults biggrin.gif

Robb

Get Zonealarm from www.zonelabs.com, its one of the best personal firewalls you can get, it's dead easy to configure to.

Herman

Apparently, 'BlackICE' is better, is it not SRRAE? Whats your view?

I run ZoneAlarm and have very few attacks tongue.gif

See ya

In functioality there's not much to choose between BlackICE and ZoneAlarm, but ZoneAlarm usually comes out marginally on top because its a little easier to configue and live with. It is certainly our (corporate) favourite, but it is shite on NT, but great for W2K.

If anyone is planning on using the XP inbuilt firewall then think carefully because it only really works in one direction - inbound. A good firewall not only protects you from the outside world but it also protects the outside world from you and alerts you to stuff that you didn't know you were doing !!!

howcome ur company use personal firewalls on all the machines? Id have thought for a corporate network a hardware firewall would be used.

Anyway im sure blackice is up to the job.

You are assuming that machines are only used on the corporate network. Well when off site using the Internet to set-up a VPN back to the corporate network .... need I say more ...
