Went to see this yesterday - I've seen both Ring, Ring 2 and "The" Ring so I was quite looking forward to it. Disappointing tho - the film tends to rely on 'cheap' shocks rather than tension and suspense. And I hate it how it goes all soppy at the end. :(

Best bit was how Samara climbed up the well

Got to say the Grudge is far better.

err, hey why dont you come round to my house... I've got a GREAT video for you to watch.

Must say I preferred "Dark Water" to the Ring films (by the same director).

Whats that about then?

dont say a dirty pond please :D

Saw the ring 2 as well on saturday, bit shite really, samara climbing up the well was 'orrible though, must be triple jointed!

There was a trailer for the U.S version of dark water didn't say when it is out though

lol - not telling!

Seriously though, it's another Japanese girly-ghost film, just with a much better atmosphere than Ring. Not saying any more than that, as it'll spoil it!

Go for the J-spec version! The original, Japanese versions of Ring and Grudge (haven't seen the remake of Ring 2) are much more subtle (and therefore unsettling) than the remakes.

Dark Water is grrrreat! Saw it in a little cinema off Leicester Square late one night and it scared the bejesus out of me! You kind of know what the twist is going to be from quite early on but for some reason instead of spoiling it, it just adds to the tension as you're anticipating the reveal at every turn!

I taped 'Ring' the other night - I assume that's worth seeing?

oh yes, just as long as you burn the video afterwards ;)

think I'll go for Dark Water soon

Japanese version of Ring 2 was on C4 over the weekend. Can't really see how they could squeeze much more after the first one to be honest.

Wrong Turn impressed me first time I saw it. ;)

can i just ask are the original versions you talk about in japanese with japanese actors? cos pepole told me these were shite and not worth watching.

I'd advise never listening to these people ever again ;)

I guess if you have the attention span of a gnat, or really really hate subtitled films then they'd not be for you.. but honestly, the original versions are so much better, it's like night & day.

Oh, and if you're into action - try some of John Woo's films prior to him going to Hollywood.. generally speaking, much better than any of his Hollywood efforts. (Try Hard Boiled and The Killer)

Dead or Alive & Dead or Alive 2 are another two good films..

The Happiness of the Katakuris, great film (if a little.. bizarre)

Ichi the Killer - oooh now that's a good film.. tres violente. (I'm such a geek I own two versions  The original DVD release and the subsequent box set with the animated prequel..)

There's more.. but I'll shut up now :o

I try my best ;)

My collection is (well, was) being taken over by Japanese (and some Korean, Hong Kong & Chinese) films, oh and a healthy dose of Anime, naturally..

Had to stop buying DVDs though, as bankruptcy is looming rather large on the horizon

Ichi the Killer - was going to rent this,is it defo worth it looks gruesome and to my taste

Cool (aside from the bankruptcy bit, sorry to hear that mate) - out of the 400-odd DVDs and VCDs I have, only about 30(ish) aren't HK, Japanese or Korean!

Bankruptcy bit is a p*sser - but it's what happens when you quit your job and earn bugger all for a year.. Still hoping to avoid it. Somehow. Will be off to the CAB when I get back from a 3 week contract in Sheffield. Need more work. Must find more work..

And you have quite a few more DVDs than me, I'd guess ;) I only have.. dunno actually.. heh :) maybe 200, tops.. about half are HK, Japanese, Korean or Chinese.. :) No VCDs, didn't really get into buying films until I got a DVD player a few years back.

Yes, it's a great film - bit of a headf*ck at times, and the storyline does leave you thinking "was he.." (I can't say, it'd ruin it ;) ). Absolutely, definitely, must-see film, though. Even if just for the opening shot & titles (Mujina will know the one I mean ) - never seen that in a 'normal' film before..

The animated prequel is pretty cool too actually.
