I haven't bothered putting tax on my car or bike for over two years.

I tax them but don't stick the disc on.

At first I did it by mistake but realised it looked better IMO.

Never had a problem with the police and if I did I think I could just say: "errrr I thought it was there - maybe someone nicked it".

Does anyone else not display their tax disc? Had any problems?

I always had a photocopy on my bike, that way it didn't matter if it got nicked. These days the plod may take a less charitable view of that ....

Usually they radio in before they even pull you over and find out if your taxed and insured. I know cos I even heard the reply come in on the police radio once after he stopped me. as a result he didnt even go to look for the disk or give me a producer which is better cos it saves sitting in the station for 20 mins while they fill all the forms in. Your at more risk from some jobsworth traffic warden who might see you parked up one day.

what happens if your involved in an accident NOT your fault?

the minute they see no tax disc displayed, id guess it would be your car they went over like a rash

traffic wardens can issue a summons for not displaying, yes you may be legal

but is it worth the hassle of having to go to court??

if you reckon it looks better, how clear must it be for plod to see it's not there???

good reason is, you have a roofless car, so you dont display as you have had the disc stolen before...works on the bikes anyway lol

The offence is not displaying a Tax disc, and can carry up to a £1000 fine :(:( and if you are involved in an accident then your insurance comp may re-consider if they pay out because you are in the act of committing an offence :nono:

I used to carry a copy on my bike aswell :D until i got pulled and had a rather harsh speaking to, but they didnt nick me :D i talked them round to my way of thinking...... cos was sick of Chav's nicking it :xxx:

T pot...nice car bud,,,,,shiney....

yup dont display a valiD TAX DISC...FURKING CAPS (switches it self on) then u r due a FIne,,,,having said thAT if u have it u AInt ever going to get done 4 it,

most on here r legit so no need to worry.

I dont put it on the bike, its in my wallet, but then again I never leave my bike where I cant see it , so Traffic Nazis are not a problem.

Exactly right.....You dont want the same headache that Peter & Jaz have at the moment do ya???? :nono:

yep, as Sgt C said - The Offence is not to display a Valid Tax disc. I have been done before for it - Fined by traffic warden. Was about £80. They were'nt interested that I had a tax disc, but only that it was'nt displayed.

Some good points.

Yes, it's illegal, yes I could get fined. But that's the same case for doing 80mph on the motorway and I bet most of you do that too.

I think I may put the tax discs on though - £80 is £80 and I guess they won't make the car look too scruffy although it does look better without!

could always get a more attractive Tax disc holder than the usual ugly things. I have a very nicely made Round stainless steel holder with Z logo on the back on mine.

See this link

They are using camera vans to scan for tax disks as you drive by now so you'll get a fine through the post without even knowing you've been caught.

Get it stuck on like everyone else LOL

Where i live if you aint got tax they pick your car up and take it away like i saw today down my road today i guess they give you some time to pay up before they crush it, id say display the tax disc. ;)

The cameras read the number plate then they check against the data base to see if its in tax.

Yeah you're right there... I'll get me coat! LOL

Good point about them taking cars away, ask PPS Leonardo who got his Z project crushed for no tax!
