Need advice please,

 

Was offered an 88 Chevy Camaro IROC and £2000 cash for my Zed today!

Chevy needs a head gasket and a freshen up of the paintwork (paint faded)

 

Do I or dont I ?? :confused:

They are nice cars with great presence.

 

I'd keep the Z though - LHD is a bit of a pain and I think it'll be less fun to drive.

I had a couple of Irocs years back. Quite quick, cheap for mechanical bits, cheap for go fast bits but really poor build quality- love to rust!! sound great but not as fast as they look if std.

Head gasket kit works out at £60 and can get a 2pk paint

job throo my work for a crate of Bud and a bottle of Glenmorangie !

25th Anniversary wheels, lsd, t top, grey leather, new 245 tyres,

has been chipped, very little rust, mainly a wee bit on the rear wheel arches,

but bottom of doors and boot floor all ok, pile of receipts and old mot`s.

 

Mot expired on Mar 26th, person selling it is going through a divorce and has lost his house and everything !!

 

Needs the cash. This is wrapped up in a package, so to speak !!

In all honesty mate, with head gasket gone I would say this car could be worth around 3k max.

 

Im not sure it's a good deal, especialy seeing as you said it needs respray etc etc etc.

 

Depends how much you love the Z and how much you like Camero's, now if it was a 60's mustang that needed work :dance:

Would assume the guy with the £2000 is getting the IROC for peanuts.

Respray would cost me SFA mate, in the trade you see.

 

Drove the car yesterday, seems ok, apart from the gunge in the expansion tank !

I know you have history with American Cars and I have a mate who was totally into American Cars until he bought a ZED then a crashed TT Supra (another story) but its gotta be a ZED mate, i'd say the IROC is nothing compared to a ZED but thats my opinion.

tbh i'd be as torn between them as you are, always liked the camero's, but enough to swap the zed for one? I dont know, i;d take both i reckon :p

Sod putting the Z engine in, although it would be awesome, you wouldnt have that lovely V8 soundtrack! How about bolting on a supercharger? Got to be cheaper than putting a Z engine in?
