Emergency Help Required!!!

Went to drive home last night from the movies, car was dead. Got AA to jump start it, and that got me home. Tried it again this morning, dead. Got a new battery, installed and as i was connecting the + terminal, noticed a fe sparks and a popping sound. Connected it and then tried to start car. Heres the symptoms:

Turn key and I get POWER dash Light and the AIRCON fan goes, no lights on dash or aircon. No indicators or wipers, Headlights ok. No stereo etc. Car sounds like it's trying to start and just wont catch. Whats also strange is that the power seat works but all the controls are reversed!!!! checked all fuses , they seem ok. Can anyone help? Am suppose to take my car in for a respray tomorrow, but can't get it to move!

 

need help fast!!!

you have the battery connected the wrong way round positive to negative

 

double check the polarity markings on the battery i boughta new battery 4 months ago it looked identical to the old unit in every way , writing on the data sheet . makers label all in the same place ....except the+ post was where the old - post should have been and vice versa

God Damn mate you were right! It was the exact same battery, cept different poles. Changed battery round. Now i have a new dilemma.

 

Car starts, turn key, only battery light is lit. Car turns over, runs, but rough. When i push on the gas, the rev counter doesnt move, car sounds a bit rough. Battery light is still on at this point. Have idicator but no hazards, no stereo. although now power seat is working right.

 

Did I do some serious damage? is it a fuse thing?

think you have goosed the alternator diode rectifier circuit buddy

 

leave the battery dissconected for a good hour this will re set the ECU you could have confused the crap out of it.........try again if its still running rough you could have burnt something out , coil packs etc ...getan auto electrician to checkout the

rectifier and voltage regulator

Coil Packs, that sounds expensive right???

 

You think maybe i fried the altenator????

alternator can be repaired but its best to bite the bullet and buy a new one about 90 pounds sterling ( if its goosed ) an auto sparky would check this out for you however normally the diode pack can be just swapped for a new one if the aletrnator is given the ok.....

 

coil packs i have never changed or bought so i dont know about cost , thing to watch for if changing these is the terminals are not broken or coroded

 

i hope you just fried the alternator its an easier fix

i had the same problem mate a while ago and it was found to be the ALTERNATER, i had slight power like your saying in certain things, but if you was to leave the ignition on for abit you could see the rest dieing out, thats what happened to me, i had to put my 4 ways on, but within minuets they had stopped and i had no power what so ever, im no grease monkey but i can only speak from my own experience........
