Still looking for an Ignition switch to match the one I have..

The car was broken into and the little sods thought they could start it but all they managed to do was smash the ignition switch.

The one I have is Jap, Auto and comes with a number of electrical conections

I have the main 5pin spade conector on the back, but also I have two wires coming from a black plastic cover plate half way down the barrel. There is also what look's like another conection on the back end of the key release button but this part is badly damaged.

Can anyone please tell me what these wires are and what they do?

If I have to fit a regular ignition switch, what will I be loosing?

I think that one of them may be the seatbelt tensioner but I dont know what one it would be.

I have tried many places but can't find anything like it.

Please help...Chris

Mike, Its not the five pin bit thats confuseing everyone, its the two other conections on the sides. No one else seems to have them at all.

yuh thats why I ask if you have an immobiliser installed, or does it look like it an OEM part?

Just looks like it's sposed to be there. All the wires go into the loom on conectors.

At the moment it's got me beat..

Maybe if I cross the two wires at the conectors, something might start to work again. What do you think?

Chris..

I went to the petrol station the other night and totaly embarrased myself by trying in vain to pull the key out, no matter how hard i tried i couldnt budge it, I was doing everything i should to remove it (i.e. pressing the anti snatch button), I was just about to give up and phone the AA when I realised Id left the car in drive!, put it in park and hey presto the key slipped out!! Now this cant be a mechanical connection from the gearbox so could these two wires have something to do with holding the key in so you cant remove it and walk away without putting it in P?? Just a thought as I know F*ck all really !!!

Pete...

..... but also I have two wires coming from a black plastic cover plate half way down the barrel.....

This sounds like the wires for the illumination ring from the barrell.

As stated above, this sounds like the electrical connection for the key release.

There is a guy selling a complete lock set for a Zed on eBay. It is all the locks, complete with keys for a auto, all brand new.

HTH

EDIT** Just found the link, only 11 hours to go!!! HERE

You are right Pete, thats what it must be. I remember that you cant get the key out. if the car is not in P. and the second one is to pull the seat belts back into the door when the key is removed..

Three hours to go, and I've posted a question to him regarding postage to the UK, I'll wait and see. If he says yes, and it's getting close, I'll put a bid in, unless you do first ;) (If you do want it, and you don't get a bid in, then if I win it, it's yours for no extra charge). At least it's got a part number, and unless you have an air bag, it's the same part all the way through to 96!!

If it's the same part through to 96, then why has no one over here ever seen anything like it. All the brakers I have spoken to say, aint seen anything like that before.. I was beginning to think I had something special.

Will have to see what happens but I will not be around to see the bidding out, so dont know what to do. Dont want to go to high cos the postage will be pritty high to. Must weigh a bit????

Chris..
