Hi guys,

Over the next few months, I will be looking to get another car because the SRI is not doing it for me anymore.

Just wanted to know how you guys rate the reliability and running costs or your NA. I would love to hear from those of you that have had both TT's and NA's and what you have found to be the pros and cons with both, apart from the obvious one(performance)!

Cheers

Cos

Hi there

I use my NA as a daily driver doing approx 20 miles per day and getting around 23mpg.

Never had a TT but so far performance is proving more than acceptable.

The car is kept outside on the drive and so far has always started and run well. Replaced the starter motor a couple of weeks ago as occassionally the old one failed to engage. Other than that it's just been normal running costs.

Good luck with whatever you chooose to get.

Phil

I've had two NAs over the last 2.5 years or so - one auto and one manual and loved them both. Always a bit to scared to work out accurate MPG figures but they have both been reliable and spot on starters. Obviously the same list of niggley problems as the TTs with mucky connectors and stuff ...but I'm not permanently looking out for scary smoke at tickover!

I've always been happy with the performance of an NA but then I've never driven a TT!

David

I have both, the NA is my daily drive and never fails to start and run perfect **touch wood** still reasonable on the performance front about 20MPG on average and she does about 50 miles a day, my TT has been playing up for nearly a year and I am now giving up on her and spending some money to make the NA hopefully as fast, dont write the NA off like I hear so many say on here.

Gotta say, when i took Steve J's stock SWB NA auto down the strip at Santa pod i was impresesed with the responce of the engine, obviously it will never match the performance of a TT but still impressive none the less, very nice bit of kit to drive IMO.

If i had the spare cash, i'd almost certainly run a NA for a daily driver.

I've had my auto NA since the beginning of 2004.

I love it and haven't had any problems. (I think a £4 non-reurn valve inside the fuel pump could be on the way out though!).

I think I get 30mpg on a long, steady run, about 26mpg on a long fast run and as little as 20mph in town traffic or caning it on back lanes.

I've driven a TT and lots of fast bikes and the only time I really miss the power is when I'm on this forum rather than the road talking about it. I think over 200bhp on the road it comes down to driver skill not engine performance except in a straight line.

cheers guys

I have both. NA superb cheap to run and dont go worng. Turbo, sack of shit had 2 months and spent 4k on repairs. I would go NA every time and as soon as my turbo is fixedits gone. Save your cash get an na

Had an NA for 2 years now. In that time, ive had no problems.

Its a manual SWB with no cruise contol and no Hicas, so probably the lightest varient of Z32. Its great to drive and i feel confident when the foots down and on bendy roads.

I have to say i love it, ive considered buying a TT a few times but every time i speak to TT owners i keep hearing how many £kkks they are having to spend.

Ive had a bit of a 'race' with a couple of stock TTs. At higher speeds, if you keep the revs up there aint too much difference in a straight line.

Performance wise, i only have a chip, induction kit and underdrive pulley.

TBH, I think the only reason to buy a TT is if you have intentions of pushing BIG power.

oh, the NA still guzzles petrol!

Ive had both. My NA pulled 225 rwbhp and was an excellent car, as above started firts time every time, no issues with it and so much room to do the service in.

ive had two na's before the tt i bought before christmas.

at the moment im still spending money getting it back to 100%. Not the engine or gearbox mind, they're in superb condition, just underneath things like shocks, wishbone and steering stuff .

The NA's brought me small niggly problems., although on the last one i had to have a complete rebuild on the auto box.

overall it really depends on experience on which one to buy, and which gives you the most fun. if my head ruled over my heart i,d have the na back again, but the buzz you get out of kicking those turbo's in even at 90-100mph is just great craic!!!

the tt's are usually the ones that have had most hardship and abuse, thats why they've got a bad name. ....So to sum up i,d advise na first to get around the understanding of the car, learn as much as you can on here, then if you feel like upping the ante, get yourself a good tt

It's ok Chewie - I use to own a TT for 3 years and loved every second. It was a very reliable car but as you have so rightly said, they can be problematic.

I just wanted to get a feel for how the NA boys and girls get on as funds are an issue at the mo.

Thanks for the feedback!
