Firstly don't buy the first one you see , if you can buy one from a subscribed member as these have usually been well looked after failing that take someone who knows what there looking at as it could well stop you from getting your fingers burnt , where about in Berks are you

2 questions - how many miles year do you intend to do in it and have you got loads of money?

hi mate bit of advice that i can give is dont try and run a zed on a budget i looked into them a lot so i knew what to expect. have a good search through this site and see some of the problems these guys have with there zeds, and some of the joys they also have and then decide if a zed is for u, ive had mine for a year and spent about £2000 on it some mods most repairs but i love it and wouldnt swap it for the world. the pros definatly outweigh the cons :smash:

Ill drink to that :duffer:

Ive been caught out once, in buying my second Z from a dealer on the phone. I flew over to luton Airport bought it for 3500 drove it back to ireland and 3 months later it needed a new gearbox.

I wasn't aware of this forum then but if i had i definitely would have paid an extra couple of grand to a member selling his car. I would have got honest no bulls*hit advice from enthusiasts, and thats the advantage you now have.

Take your time and you'll find a nice clean car. Overall i think they are an extremely well built solid sportscar with a few niggly problems which every owner now Knows about , and a most are easily fixable at home yourself. If not there are several specialists in the Uk who are owners themselves and wont rip you off. Ive been driving them as my daily driver for the past 6 years, and find them in general very reliable considering most are 10-15 years old

Final word the 300zx is the best value true sportscar you can buy today!

£200 things that went wrong

Hi all

Im new here too. I was wondering pretty much the same things. What are the main and most costly things youve had go wrong? Are the turbo's reliable?

I currently drive a 200sx S14, and really like it. Ive had it about 8 months and spent about £800 on new tyres and brake lines, discs and pads, and thats it.

I am wondering about the 300, or whether to stay with the 200, as they can be done up fairly cheap, but I do like the look of the 300.

What are your opinions? Dont slate a car, just give honest advice. I am a member of the sxoc and they rate this club highly. Ive asked what people there think, and Im getting cinflicting views. Some are a bit reluctant, and say 300's are nice but too much like hard work??? And others love them.

So any advice welcome.

Welcome :)

While the 200sx is a great little sports car and many of us are fans of the 200, the 300zx is a true japanese Supercar.

It turns heads everywhere it goes, people come up to you all the time and ask you about it (usually questions like "wow...nice, what is it ?"). Performance is inspiring and it feels special to own and drive.

You have to expect it to cost a lot more than a 200sx to run and maintain though.

There are some very good Zed specialists, and this forum is a invaluable resource.

Check out the "Meets forum" section. Pop along, speak to fellow owners and get a feel for the cars.

Good luck with your decision.

Defo....i've been in queues at traffic lights behind porsches and stuff and people always point out the Z and not the porsche....lol

Hi purpledragon,

I also owned a 200sx for 2 years before i got a 300. I constantly worried about buying a 300zx for the running costs , repairs etc. Everyone told me i was mad at the time, my own father said "huh, it'll bankrupt you" .

That hasn't been the case and recently a neighbour of mine got a 200sx and asked me to take it for a spin as he had modified it and wanted me to compare the two. I accepted and thought id really enjoy it for nostalgia reasons but .. boy, was i really let down.

Please no offence to your car but it didnt compare at all in performance and just didnt give me the solid driving feel of the 300.

Dont get me wrong, i,ve had problems over the years as i also did with my 200 but nothing to "bankrupt" me.......best of luck whatever you choose to do

Cool, Cheers guys.

Black magic - No offence was meant mate. I know how good these forums are.

Legrath - Thanks for pointing out the meets, thats a good idea, cheers.

On a sour note, a lad on the sxoc just give me his opinion. It was to be careful, as he was in a crash in a 300 and his mate, who was driving, didnt get out alive :(

Cool, Cheers guys.

A sad thing to hear...but the 300zx is a very strong well built car. There have been previous posts about this. I'd fancy my chances in the Zed over the 200zx, scooby, evo, rx7, fto..etc..etc

Cool, Cheers guys.
