hiya Pete,

drop in any time mate.

my mp3 player is from Empeg www.empeg.com but they have stopped production.

However, they will still be supporting all old models, and new software will still be developed for it.

They are selling them off a bit cheaper at the moment to clear stock, and are well worth the money, especially at that price.

If you are in any doubts, i'm sure Andy I and Bob can both back me up, they are very cool....

Thanks for the quick reply Craig

Speak soon.

Am i looking at the riocar unit for $699??

Don't suppose u know of any where cheaper

While we are on the subject of stereos, has anyone bought a stereo from the USA?

I am sure that there are no compatibility issues but would like to make sure as I am wanting to buy an MP£/CD player.

Your thought would be appreciated.

i'm sure thats the one, does it look the same as mine ? wink.gif

and that is very cheap mate....

half the price i paid for mine frown.gif

and make sure you buy a radio module with it, if they are not bundled together.

From what i read on their site you can hook straight in to your existing system?

also do sony make an empeg player.

Got to convince the wife we need one!! empeg player that is

The Empeg is the way to go. The other in-car players have protection that prevents you loading mp3s from the net (you normally have to give them the original cd and they rip from that).

$699 is a very good price. You can only buy them from the makers although I hear there is one place in the States called "Best Buy" who were given a small allocation to sell. It wont be cheaper than Rio though.

It does have to connect through an existing system since there is no built in amp. It is basically a Linux box, you can telnet onto it if you want. If you can code, you can do some cool stuff on it. Some people are developing sat nav for it, others have a speed camera database... the possibilities are endless.

Get one, you wont regret it!

Andy

Andy,

sign me up,you've sold me it m8.

I'v been using easynews.com of late and amongst other things they have boat loads of mp3's bit like napster so i better get down loading all those free tunes.

but i can't help thinking that £500 would go a long way towards traction control(life is tough)

Pete

Hehe. I completely agree, they are NOT cheap at all. But look at it this way, most people paid over a grand for one. Its an extremely good deal they are doing to get rid of the stock. Also, the guys who run the show (not Rio really, I mean the original Empeg guys) are superb and will always be there to help.

Two VERY important links for you if you are interested: http://empeg.comms.net/ - The Empeg BBS. Bit like here but for the Empeg and more friendly wink.gif http://www.riocar.org/ - a new site being setup by a load of enthusiasts (who are on the bbs all the time). Good place for faqs, stuff to download (you can play tetris on it you know!) etc etc

If you need any help or have any questions, as Craig mentioned before, Me, Craig and Bob all have them.

Cheers,

Andy

Andy,Craig

Thanks for all the info guyz looks like santa

will be leaving one under the tree for me this year!!!

Hehe, no probs Pete. You'll love it. I was just without mine for 3 days and it was driving me crazy not having it. I use it in the house connected to the hifi more than in the car.
