Anti stone chip stuff?

Morning all... :p

Just in the process of tidying up the sills and rear wheel arches on my zed at the moment. As funds and my time are a bit low at the mo, I want to just patch up the sills, so I am in the process of grinding and sanding back, filling and then respraying the areas. One thing I'm having trouble with though is the anti stone chip rippley stuff. For now I just want to redo it where I've ground it back, rather than removing the lot to smooth the sills over. The problem is I'm not sure what stuff to use. I have been told that its just underseal - but I'm not convinced.

Has anyone used anything thats done the job reasonablly well?

Hi mate,

I work in the Paintshop at the Nissan factory in Sunderland. The material is called SGC (Stone Guard Coating). It's basically an anti chip coating. If you've sanded it down, I wouldn't think you be able to patch it up without repainting the full sill with SGC, otherwise you'll be able to see the repair easily.

Thanks for that, I'm not looking for a showroom finish right now, just trying to tart it up a bit. I've come across a spray anti stonechip protection by a company called Hycote. Has anyone tried using this???

You can get stonechip protector in spray cans but it does,nt give you the same heavy textured finish , to get that it has to be applied with a :Shultze : gun which is the same gun you apply underseal with, dont be tempted to use underseal cos when its painted it discolours the paint applied on top.

Any good motor factor would have both in stock , the guns are quite cheap but you will need a compressor HTH.
