Cold=Bad

Anyone else had the problem o hesitation/Loss of power, but only when the engine is cold? comes right when up to temp.

Any ideas?

I am sure that I read some where that the boost is cut down when the engine is cold so that you dont ruin your engine.

Also when the engine is warm it is freeier moving so that will help.

Spark plugs, coils and compression springs to mind.

Stuart,

The engine is restricted to standard boost (7psi ?) until it gets above 59 deg C. After that the BCSV's are enabled.

Andy,

Is standard boost 7psi then, and what is/are BCSV?

I know it's highly inaccurate but the boost guage on my Jap moves up to an indicated 10psi, is there any easy way of checking boost?

Cheers m8

it takes a lil bit of time for the oil to move around freely, when the car does'nt run oil settles down, try putting in oil stablizers in your engine with your next oil change, it helped a bit on mine.

Tim,

Yes standard boost is 7 psi, full boost as controlled by the Boost Control Solenoid Valves is 9.5 psi in a standard car. More if you have twiddled with it !

Guys a little more accuracy needed here I think (No offence) Breed777 posted that hesitation and lack of power when cold, I take that to mean it`s something of a pain at junctions etc and generally does not run well when cold which is very different to the in built boost cut back until warm. One of the great features of these powerful cars is the ability to drive normally if you want and to have bags of driver usablity whether cold or hot.

Breed777 my advise is to do a thorough engine check and in particular the auxillery air valve and cleandiness of the throttle bodies, also when did you check the plugs? sound like a general "I need some service please" from the car.Sorry to go on but read the post`s carefully ,I have replied myself sometimes having only briefly read the original question and ended making an arse reply. (Hope I hav`nt done that now?)

Thats the funny thing, my car Z is an N/A and has had almost a full engine rebuild, fully checked by a ZX specialist, New platinum plugs, everything is good, only thing is he said the Temp sensor was out of spec at the high end. COuld this be my problem? it never use to act this way, also noticed my shift kitted Trans is alot sharper when cold too, all problems are gone when up to temp, should I check the resistence of all my sensors?

Sounds like it might be a choke problem Check that the auto choke is working Ok. I haven't a clue where it is on the Z, but it must have one. Anyone else help?

As with all these type of problems do all the simple checks first.

Doh! Brain in gear now. The Z won't have a choke as its all injection and managed by ECU. I'll have a lie down now.

Do a self diagnostic and check for vaccuum leaks .
