Hand-held speed trap- average time to notification?!

The pigs may have got me last Wednesday morning.

Does anyone know how long it takes them to process a ticket?

A woman coming the other way kind of waved and gave me a thumbs down... not seen that warning before! Wondered if my fogs were on, so while I was preoccupied with that I'd wandered right into the trap :headvswal I wasn't giving it any beans, but I was still doing about 35 when I saw the copper hiding behind a tree. As I drove past he just kind of stared at the Zed, so maybe he was so dumb-struck with awe that he forgot to take the reading!

Or maybe that's just wishful thinking...? :nono:

If he was hiding behind a tree was it a hand held unit? If so they can`t do you. Must be fixed on a tripod or similar or fixed in a van, hand helds have been proven to be unreliable.

Bob

most police forces now don't prosecute speeding up to 10 mph over speed limit because of the costs involved so if u were in a 30mph u should be fine but on average they have a month to process a ticket

yep then take forever to pay them hahaha

14 days to NIP and they allow a couple of days for post so 17 days. Start counting! More good advice here http://www.speed-trap.co.uk/Home/Menu1.htm

Yep.......and once the process has started after you send it back they have 6 months to put the case work together if they are taking you to court.

If it was a hand held  then they CAN still do you, but normally they have a colleague down the rd to pull you over :xxx: 's

Where were you mark? Hampshire police are notoriously anal about speeding. Hand held's are generally used as a guide for a reason to tug you and check you out. You got 17 days though

Cheers for the advice chaps! :)

Where were you mark?
Nick- It was down Minley road, about 20 yards from my house. Not the usual Farnborough road sites.

Never seen them along there before. I only saw the copper with the gun, and it was definitely hand-held only- no tripod. Didn't see his collegue anywhere, but that evening when I was cycling down the same road I did see the pair of them chatting in a layby. Wasn't a cop car anywhere to be seen. Wasn't speeding that time either! :D

Start counting!
Post-It note already attached to monitor!

I didn't know that- I feel a bit more optimistic now :)

I wouldn't feel to optimistic as this is not a rule of thumb....From my Mrs who is a Copper as most of you know :x:

I thought 14 days plus postage for a NIP only applied to static cameras - I could be wrong.

If your car was reading 35mph, most speedos overread by 10% which means you were doing just under 32mph (probably) so I don't think they'll do you for that.

Sgt C- OK, I'll worry again then :D

Craig David- I calibrated my speedo using GPS and it was in the order of 1-2% out (over-reading). So 35mph is near as dammit 35mph.

sorry for the hi-jack - how did you calibrate your speedo mate - I got a set of white dials but if I fit them speedo will read wrong - I got gps so can use that but dont know what to tweak on the dash

If its a hand held radar then as Gio said, they will have a unit down the road to pull you over. If not, it might not have been you or your car, where is the proof?:D No piccy no prosecute.

Hand helds are a prelude to being pulled over, they don't generate automatic NIPs.

If it comes through contact them saying you want to see calibration evidence for the gun used to catch you. They have to be calibrated regulally - and most aint

i got busted by the filth about a month ago 39 in a 30 in a work vehicle took 2 days for my firm to get the ticket they sent it back saying who the driver was and it took about a week and a half for it to come to me

Doesent help really just thought id share

So let's see if I've got this right...

If it's a hand-held device, i.e. not on a tripod or in the back of a van, then it's only a radar gun and not a camera, and therefore if no-one pulled me over at the time then I'm ok?

Mark

Well I got pulled by a copper using a handheld laser cannon, he showed me the speed...73mph at 233 metres away!

Still going to see a brief as I reckon he recorded that speed when I was in a national speed limit section of road before I passed the 40mph limit signs. Worth a try I reckon.

Either that or just bend over and lube up! LOL :D

I don't think Lancs police operate this policy cause they did me for 37mph in a 30mph zone(I thought it was a 40 limit - long, wide rural road in the middle of nowhere  ). Some pig sat in the back of a galaxy got me and the fine arrived in less than a week. They wouldn't even let me off with a warning as it was me first offence :(

Gutted for you m8!!

I have have had my licence for 18 months and i got caught with a front facing camera doing 90 in a 70 zone.

Luckily i got away with it as there was a big thing in the news a couple of weeks after i got my notice saying that if a speed camera is next to a molbile phone or any other electrical device then it is inaccurate so i got away with it. :D

I would say thay pull you over there and then Mark. Keep your fingers crossed and you be OK.

Next time try and see if you can get them to pull you over on your push bike!!
