Fair play to ya mate. I hope it does turn out to be the stem oil seals. You should know soon enough when you take the cams off & have a look at them. If they've all slid off the valve guides or look melted then you know you were right!

Good luck & if you need some help then let me know.

Shaun

Hi mate,

most people say take the engine out to do the simplest of things, you got balls!

nice one mate for having the balls to go forward, after the cams come off pressurize one pot at a time with a compresser,i did this once on another 16 valve motor and butched a compresion tester for the plug hole fitment and conected it to a compreser line, the air should hold the valves closed iff its high enough. good luck and keep us posted as this could save us £££££££ iff it goes ok

i think i must have big balls or very stupid lol!! :smash:

right then what have i done so far!!

removed the plennum, what a friggin nightmare but after much kicking and screaming off it came!!

rad, yep out it came!!

cambelt covers there off,

rocker covers off also!! not as easy as you might think as the bolts closest the wings are a bit of a pita!!,

in work 2mos!! find a damn 27mm socket to remove the underdrive pulley!!

fabricate a tool to use on top of the head to compress the springs!!,

now then with regards to compressed air!! i have read somewhere that some vacum tubing stuffed down the sparkplug hole works well to keep the valves up!! will have to measure how much i put in!! turn the crankshaft so it just about nips up against the valves, and when i have done the valves must remember to reverse the crank b4 remove tubing!!

here are some pics of todays progress!! removed the rad, timing covers and aux belts!!

1 1/2 hours to get the plennum & rockers off,

1 1/2 to get the rad out and the aux belts and the timing covers!! not started the main pulley yet!!

I would babe but i am allergic to working on 300's bad things happen, it tends to lead to me throwing things at the car and breaking things off. Not to mention the shouting and stamping of feet

I had to get the angle grinder out to fit the induction kit in the end!!!

lol

:p

But like i said when you have finished yours, you are welcome to fix mine :p
