just to add to identify this sensor i've just been out in zed with it connected and disconected the turbo boost pressure is a lot higher at lower revs with this sensor disconected, any ideas what it is anyone?

Could be solenoid valves for a boost controller??-maybe removed controller and left these on!

could be so another question where would the vacuum pipe connect to usually the pipe connects to the rear left of the engine by the balance bar

That is a boost solenoid called an Amal valve they were used by Ford on Sierra and Escort Cosworths, the ports were designed to take diiferent size ferrals, this gives a base boost level, activating the valve opens the next port which "bleeds" an amount of air off the actuator (depndant on what size ferral fitted) and that gives more boost level.

Looks like someone has adapted this to your zed as a variable boost device ( high , low ) there is most likely a switch somewhere in the cabin area, incidently on the Cosworth this device was not used as a manual boost increase system it was to reduce boost during warm up it has been reversed in your case.

Neat trick to use it on a zed.
