Short answer... Nope

Long answer.. Haven't got a clue what it is but it aint the oil drain plug! smile.gif

I *think* it might be one of the block coolant drain plugs judging by the location near to the engine mount.

(waves hand) This is not the plug you are looking for..

[static] This is not the plug we're looking for..

The oil drian plug is on the right hand side of the engine and can be seen, and just about reached, from behind the front wheel. I think it is 12 or 14mm and is at an angle on the sump.

Good job I couldn't get it off then! smile.gif

OK, I give in, where is the engine oil drain plug? That's the only thing I could find that looked anything like a drain plug.

Forgot to say that if you can see the oil filter then it's just past that, a bit lower and a bit further forward. There must be a pic in the online manual.

As Andy says, its on the oil pan - easily spotted by being large and, er black smile.gif

The plug is angled so that it's facing down and toward the drivers side of the car, 14mm hex head.

If it's your first time finding it, it's far, far easier with the car a good foot in the air - thats how I did it.. Once you know where it is you slap your head and go "d'oh" smile.gif

I'm just happy knowing that the bolt head that I completely mangled tonight is nothing to do with the oil drain plug. smile.gif

Thanks guys

I think the stud/bolt you tried removing (from your photograph) is the main drain plug on the powersteering rack - DO NOT REMOVE!!!

What AndyP says is correct, its at an angle of about 30degrees facing backwards toward the rear of the car (from memory) and on the drivers side of the car.

It should be the ONLY bolt on the sump. (apart from the 17 10mm ones that hold the sump in place!)

Goodluck.

See what nearly happens when you suggest I should do my own oil change for once! smile.gif
