Oil Cooler on an Import TT Manual?

I was talking to my garage, and the subject of the Engine Oil Cooler came up. My thinking was that I could fit a 'larger' European one.

Unfortunately I cannot quickly check, but apparently my model does not have one at all?

Is anybody able to confirm? My TT is a 7.1994 manual 2-seater.

Thanks, Geoff

A TT Manual from Japan *should* have a little oil cooler, underneath the air intake. You can replace it with a setrab unit. I'm doing this currently on mine. I'll let you know the exact fin/row count but the setrabs used by stillen etc are much much larger than the stock jobbie. Earls also make a cooler you can use.. infact almost anything.. just the mounting plate is a bit fiddly. Currently drawing this up in AutoCAD so I can get plates laser cut. Email me if you're interested in one.

I have never heard of a TT from any country without an engine oil cooler.

Its fairly small and sits in front of the air con radiator at the bottom. I have replaced mine with a larger mocal cooler which has never got warm never mind hot. So either it is really efficient or it don't work.

Something to note is that the std cooler has only a few rows widely spaced. This is good for transferring heat at low speeds. More rows more closely packed need more of a flow(i.e. more speed) to work well. Swings & roundabouts...

Thanks to all for the info. I just hope the garage finds it when they put things back!

Rowan, I would be interested in the fitting and Rad size/rows - I will e-mail you. I think there may be a less expensive Rad to the Setrab over here (Mocal).

Hi Coogs, its along time since Box Hill. I have been thinking about a Mocal for a little while now. I saw them at ThinkAuto - did you go for the 115 wide by 10/13 rows? How did you get on with a mounting plate and positioning?

My main concern is if I have to convert the oil filter unit to run an oil cooler. There's the housing adapter, I guess a thermostat.....

Thanks for the help.
