The car now runs 6 degrees cooler I suppose when you have a nasty thin aircon rad blocking your coolant flow then it will run cooler,In anycase who needs aircon in the UK,all it does is reduce bhp and use more fuel  ;)

So, does anyone have a write up or know how to remove it, do you still have the ability to heat the cabin as it is mighty cold out there ???

Olly the heater works just the same as it did,not a problem;)

is that just on UK cars or on imports as well.

the air conditioning system works independantly to the heater system on all cars.

not a chance matey - i love my air conditioning

i agree, & if you can feel the difference in performance when you switch your A/C on then youre either clinically insane or your compressor has siezed!! :D

bugger - i forgot the drop in horsepower with air con running - i'll only have 475 to play with - how will i survive

OK I must be clinically insane then :D Try sitting there idling and then turn the a/c on. The revs dip slightly and then come back as the ECU throttles up slightly to make up for the load of the compressor. Or try turning it on and off as you're driving along (not clicky-clicky, just on ... off ... on) and there's deffo an effect.

BTW, the behaviour of the aircon is one (or many) reasons I fell in love with the Zed and have so much respect for the original designers and where their heads were at.

"Let's have some aircon, chief-designer san", they said "our drivers need to be kept cool and comfortable". "But we all know air-con takes power from the engine and every now and again, our drivers want to bury the loud pedal in the firewall. When they do that, they are clearly after full steam ahead. So let's program the ECU to turn the air-con off!"

Brilliant - genius - the designer for suggesting it and the company for being so in-tune, they paid for it to happen!

BTW the first hot summer in traffic with all that glass and all us air-con fans can go into smug mode :D

Targa tops are so much better:D

Last time my aircon broke (and blew out that 500psi safety plug) I had to drive 6 hours up to bloody Cumbria and 6 overheated bloody hours back again.

Open all the windows on the motorway - get deafened by wind blast and poisoned by diesel. Shut the windows and sweat like a pig.

Never ever ever again. Love your airconditioning and it will take care of you :D

BTW pre-Zed I was anti aircon. Why would anyone want to fit something that reduced the power available? Now I know: the Zed is the perfect anti global-warming tool!

I'm ditching what ever I can

Air con

Hicas

Cruise control

maybe intercoolers

brain

money

i got rif too , my water temp guage never goes higher than 82 degrees and even now drops to 60 degrees!! probably thanks to half the work ztech have carried out !! but defo noticed the difference with air con on and off. Had an rx7 before and made a major powerdrain when on on that puppy.

In answer to the how to questions, no its not difficult.

The ecologically correct way is to get the system discharged abnd then its just a case of removing the belt, pump, condenser and associated pipe work.

However, rumour has it , that if you put a cloth over valve which you will find behind your hicas pump, and stick a match in it, the system "miraculously" discharges itself. But romour also has it, that it discharges under pressure, makes a mess, which you will want to wash away, and you wouldnt want to get it in your eye :)

I'll be junking mine as soon as ive sorted the 2 million other things i gotta do first :D

is this something you can do yourself

or should it be left to the pros

if its dangerous!!!!

Define dangerous. If you asked an enviromentalist, they would tell you it damamges the ozone and you shouldnt breathe it. Ask me, and Id say , Ive done 3 to date and I am not typing from the other side :)

Never clicked off on mine when I nailed it

got rid of mine, can some one tell me the box behind the glove box I am assuming has somthing to do with the aircon the one to the left is the main fan I guess the one in the middle is the main air con module/box it has two alluminium pipes that stick through the bulkhead, being as I have scraped the aircon can I gut the box just leaving the shell for the fan to pass through??
