Turbo Seals - What happens next?

My oil seals are getting worse since fitting a boost upgrade and I'm now getting a fair bit of oil in the lower left hard pipe (the one next to the throttle body pipe)

I have heard about smoke from the exhaust but I don't seem to get this just clouds of smoke when cooling down after a long thrash of more than about an hour.

Will this oil damage other components or do the turbos eventually die and I just get no power?

I just want to know how long I can stick with these turbos as I've just had to spend a grand on major service and radiator.

Chris, as the oil is exiting through the exhaust outlet on the turbo can't really see any other major problems, possibly blocked cats if you have them, as for time, how longs apiece of string ? depends on how much stick you give the motor, i would reccomend you not thrashing it though, as time goes by the smoking will get worse, almost unbearable and certainly embarassing, so it's a case of how long you can put up with it, when i took my off, they were totally shagged, loss of power was minimal but smoked for England !! start saving, all in standard replacement with part's and labour around £1,500 and upwards depending on spec of turbo's you go for, i would bank on £700 labour as a rule plus turbo money, try johnny for these, smithy

As a matter of interest what boost upgrade did you go for ? smithy

i talked to a mechanic about oil seal problems, autotronics a local shop that specializes in imports, and they told me that turbo oil seal leaks are usually due to unbalanced turbos

I have a similar problem which I believe is the turbo seals...car pours oily smoke out of the left hand exhaust (mainly) but it only happens when I am idling in traffic after a drive...particularly if the turbo's have been given a workout.

I've been quoted about $3000 Aussie dollars to get it fixed.

It's friggin embarrasing sitting in a nice looking sports car thats pouring out clouds of smoke!!

It's been smoking for a while and it's just a pain as you say when you pull up and need to let the turbos cool down and there's clouds of smoke coming from under the wheel arches!

Goes like s**t off a stick though.

I got the Blitz Dual SBC controller and it certainly made one hell of a difference. With the JWT ECU my Z feels twice as fast as before - no joke!

The Blitz one allows you to adjust the boost pressure and also the gain (how fast the boost builds up to the maximum) so you can have smooth delivery or instant neck snapping power. If you have it set at high gain you risk overboosting so it's a compromise between the two. This is probably a feature on the other brands but there you go.

I went for the silver unit with the blue display. Looks very nice in my silver Z but the display is a bit small when driving.
