Radar detectors

Recently got a detector. On a couple of long trips lateley I'm sure I'm mostly detecting cellphone masts, garages and supermarkets and traffic lights. Sure it picks up gatso cameras as well but the rest seems a right pain. Anybody find the same thing?

WillieO I know someone who has got one of these fitted to his Z and he also has these problems IMHO!they are a waste of money. He now cant be bothered to plug it in.

Has anyone noticed that radar detectors can interfere with the picture quality on Sky Digital? My Snooper S1 does- not that I have Sky Digital fitted in my car wink.gif

No! radar detectors are not a waste of money! I have one fitted between the T-Tops in my Z, and although it does give false alarms it saved me from 2 tickets in the past 2 days, and has paid for itself many times over in missed speeding tickets.

Although I wouldn't consider myself to be a fast driver, I don't exactly stick to the (55 mph) speed limit on motorways here in Ireland.

Every car I have had before I have picked up a speeding ticket with, with the Z being the only car that I have had a radar detector with, it is also the only car I haven't got a speeding ticket with.

Bottom line is they're ARSE!

They only pick up B&Q doors and crappy radar signs that keep telling you you're doing more than 50 etc.

What you need to realise is since the legislation passed or couldn't prevent the use of radar etc. that the rozzers are already way ahead. Most GATSO cameras that use(d) radar are being converted to piezo strips in the surface of the road which means your detector is useless! wink.gif

OK, so what about laser you ask?

JOKE! Most coppers laser guns can get you from about a mile away...even then by the time your detector goes off they've got your speed in a fraction of a second...no chance!

Best thing you can do...IMHO...is get a diffuser(isn't that a hairdryer?) which basically repels/bounces the laser signal and lets you off the hook! wink.gif

My Snooper that I had was very accurate at picking up everything other than a speedtrap! It was a joke, if they want to get you they'll have you! Not alot you can do apart from use common sense which involves employing the following:-

Don't speed in 30mph/40mph/50phm limits

Don't raz it past sliproads

Just use yer noodle and you can beat them at their own game wink.gif

I have snooper..yes does annoyingly go off alot....but definately saved me a couple of times..mainly in motorway road works..where gatso will always be used..(temp fit)..that would have been minimum 6 points...i do over 35000 a year..i need one

i use bell 990, its saved my bacon loads of times with the hidden gatsos, gives plenty of warningof impending live gatso, it does go off going past garages but at least i know its only the automatic doors,i think the bell 550 has overcome this problem being a european detector rather than one intended for the usa, we went on a trip to aberdeen last june and i was the only one out of about 30 odd cars that didnt have a ticket in the post, A1,A90 full of gatsos,i agree that if a speed gun is pointing at you then your nicked before the detector triggers, but if the guns pointing at something in front of you at least you have forewarning.its only an aid to road safety, you can concentrate more on your driving and less time looking in bushes for hidden cameras (saw a 3 car pile up on the A52 right past a gatso, one guy must have braked and the other 2 went into the back of each other) wouldnt leave home without mine, cheers cossyboy

Sub me old fruit bat(who thinks I'm a Russian spy after I asked him if he worked on Bombers) they don't do fuck all for you in Brum at the mo against the multitude of SPECCS cams! wink.gif

Why do you think the Govt. aren't arsed about the fact that radar detectors have been made legal?

Not rocket science! biggrin.gif

nothing works at the moment against speccs (cept the satellite nav systems that have been correctly updated) but IMO every little helps. cheers cossyboy ps not all detectors have the same spec but dont take my word for it visit http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/

Not yet, but I have been SERIOUSLY considering one after my recent scare !

Of course all I really need is the map to feed into my GPS ....

Yep, got one.

Absolute dogs nutz bit of kit, you can set it to detect them from upto 5 miles away, got mine set at 3/4 of a mile at the moment gives you more than enough time to slow down

Definitly reccomend it, only problem is that it don't detect laser.
