Anyone recommend a reliable garage/mechanic in or around the Preston area who could replace a worn turbo? other half told me he could do it seeing as he completely rebuilt his sierra cosworth engine but he's started taking some bits off and decided he can't be arsed doing it! any idea's roughly how much it'd cost???

Featured Replies

not surprised he gave up, service manual says they can be swapped with the engine in, ask any of the experts here and they'll tell you its a lot easier just to pull the engine!!

phil at c&s wood is your man, he has done my turbos twice, much eisier to take the engine out than to struggle with the engine in and mess it up!!

Contact Phil on 01942 892 568 he is in leigh and an absolute wizard with the zed, tell him dewi sent ya :nana2:

;) :x:

Dont use anyone not used to working on Zeds, Ive been using a guy up at Lytham, who changed my turbos whil the engine was out, a year and a half later and the car is still not right, just found out he's severed the detonation sensor cable while fitting it.   , Turbo force in Bamber Bridge can sort the turbos out, but I dont know whether they do the fitting, might be worth a try ;)

EVERYTHING??? You sure about that? ;) Did I tell you I finish working at CPC tomorrow? ;) :x:

I know you'd handed your notice in ;)

So you staying in the same place with the ginger one or moving?

C&S Woods as the man said

Cheers for the help folks, looks like I'll be giving Phil at C&S Wood a ring when he's back on the 14th

Yep- do that.

I had mine done elswhere cos I was told I could get a guarantee from them if it went wrong (which happens!), but the truth is that there isn't such a thing when you get your tubs done. Your best bet, therefore is to go to the guy with the best reputation.

As for how much, like they say above - engine out engine in (that's a lot of labour) plus the price of your tubs. Mine cost £2500 ot there abouts (but I did get BIGGER TUBS!).

Course, it's worth doing other things too while the engine's out. (like your clutch.....)

thats not quite right Nigel :nono: if you use a garage that supplies the turbos then you have a warranty if you buy your own and then take them to a garage to have them fitted , your in no mans land , although you will have a warranty from the turbo manu you will still have to pay to get them removed etc , where as if you go to a one stop shop this is taken care off

So if you fitted my next set of Tubs and they go pop in a months time you fit new ones at no extra cost?

Mark if your tubs went bang in a months time it would either be down to the fitter or the turbo manufacturer not the customer so it would cost you nothing to have them replaced , thats the whole idea of a warranty, but bare in mind these will only be on turbos that we supply not ones a customer has supplied.

Not disputing the work bud :) just ive had 1 or 2 rather large bills

Phil at C&S is the ONLY other company that I would recommend for work on the 300 (If you could not make it to ZTech of course :smash: ) he has a good reputation, as regards pricing its always very difficult when the garage charges by the hour because you never really know what the final bill is
