Not to be out-done....

I have a problem when it comes to lesser significant car manufacturers producing ideas and implementing them when they should be standard issue on the Mighty Z.

Yes, I am talking about no other than the major facilitating, life easing, curse refraining, time saving, gimmick loving....oh alright, I'll tell you,

Heated washers.

There, I said. Yes, I am sad but I wouldn't be in here if I wasn't, just like the rest of you guys and gals.

I WANT HEATED WASHERS(Stamping feet).

Why did the XR4X4 have them and not Zs? Did Nissan think, "Piffle! Heated washers are for wuss'!?"

Well I dont care, I want them. They are a great tool to have in this time of year.

Any ideas seeing as the washer bottle is a stealth one that only shows its nipple.

Not sure on how you would heat the washer fluid bottle but I find that once my engine has reached normal temp the washer water is quite hot(you can see steam) I think this may be due to not having the correct backing on the underside of the bonnet causing the water pipes to get hot.

Good point Cos....

This ones just as bad: Why aren't the side mirrors heated?

Even my old ASTRA had heated mirrors - and they work a treat in the rain & snow. Can I see anything in my Z mirrors when it rains?? Erm.. no

WillyEd,

I don't know if it's just UK versions but the mirrors are heated.

Cos,

I was thinking about trying to heat the washer bottle. It can't be that difficult, a heating element and a temperature switch. I'm gonna go and speak to a mate in an electronic shop this week and will let you know.

could have alot to do with the fact that japan is tropical and in 1990 they were not looking at England as testing ground or europe for that matter.

I have a UK 93 Z and it has heated mirrors & heated seats biggrin.gif

Good point. I once had a Belmont CDi and evn that had heated mirrors.

Nice one. Let us know what you find.

Thanks for pissing on our chips! (just kiding) Can we have your mirrors and seats though?

Cheers guys.....I've got a 1991 UKZ, so perhaps this is another one of those: 'Whats different between the early and later model Zeds?' questions.

Is there a switch for the heated mirrors? The Astra used to have a little green button that lit up when the mirrors were heating, and automatically switched off when they were up to temperature.

Thanks again.

There is no switch on mine. Only discovered it when I took the mirror apart. My guess is that they come on with the rear demister.

Yup, Andy is right (aren't all Andys wink.gif). The rear de-mister triggers the mirrors to heat but this is only on mk2 (mid 92+) Zs. No idea about this on Jap spec cars though.

A other way of making heated washers jets(or stop them freezing) is to re-route the feed pipe from the pump on the washer bottle and extend it so it coils around the top hose of the radiator several times, and then connect to the washer jets. the reason is self explanitory !!!!

or park in a garage!!!!!
