so whats this talk of forged pistons then, done a search but still cant find an explanation!! gonna rebuild my engine should i go for forged, are they stronger so i can run higher boost, my stock pistons melted like ice cream in the summer LOL!! mainly due to detonation :smash:

can i use forged with the standard rods, not looking for mental bhp just a good solid bottom end, je pistons look good with total sealed rings,

not a lot to spend so how much for these forged jobbies,

cheers fellas

Can do you what ever pistons required, JE Wiseco etc etc stock rods on forged pistons are fine as long as the rods are in decent shape.

Ok Dewi, sounds like your car was not set up right!

Forged pistons are much stronger than stock and yes they can take detonation to a degree, but the key is to have your car set up correct or your forged pistons will also melt like ice cream they will just take a little longer to do so;)

Yes you can use your old rods too.

I replaced mine for H Beam and gave my old ones to Jock who said they were fine.

i see said the blind man, yep got a copy chip in the zed running 13psi, so this time im gonna get it right LOL!!

maybe i can use origional pistons, not the melted ones though LOL!!

with new rings and bearings to build a good bottom end that will run bout 15psi safely, with 555 injectors and a proper chip is this the right way to go,

do i really need forged pistons if only going for 14-15psi, and safe my dosh for some 555 injectors!!

Go for pistons bud as the 555 injectors wont be needed if your running 15Psi with exhaust/chip/filter.They will be on there limit but still capable of supplying enough fuel. This is what i have been advised by the site Gurus....And mine runs Fookin great.

Prehaps use the extra $dollar on greddy intercoolers

or less punishing to your wallet...Unorthodox Pully Set n light weight flywheel.

Skys the limit bud :hyper:

Hi Dewi. I'm considering going down that road too. I've got some spare stock pistons you can have from my spare engine if still needed.

Does anyone know which forged pistons are best to go for? I'm considering Wiseco atm.

Cheers

Dave.

I have Wiseco and they look a good piston. Lighter than stock and look well built.

Wiseco make motorbike and powerboat pistons mainly but are becoming more popluar with cars now. I know some one who has a Lancia paid £800 for a set of wiseco pistons.

If using stock pistons second hand or new just make sure you match the grade of piston as stamped on the piston and block

Wiseco are great pistons you just have to be careful you get the right ones with the 5% offset in the wrist pin or you will have a certain amount of piston clatter

cheers fellas, dave mac i have a set of stock pistons that are in good nick, ok then dont need 555 injectors, just need to concentrate on getting a good srtong solid bottom end, whats the damage for rings and full set of bearings??

do i just get the same bearings as i have now, no need to change them for a different size is there, just use the info on the bearings to order an exact match, who is best to order from??

cheers fellas,

Thanks for your advice guys. Dewi - I'll check those sizes tomorrow.

Cheers

Dave.
