I've been reading posts about problems getting the tub timer to work with the alarm. Did a search and found on http://www.autowatch.co.za an alarm with turbo timer. It's the 456Rli. Has anyone heard of these or used it??

Cheers Andrew

You might find any alarm has to be thatcham approved before your insurers will cover you.

I have a clifford concept with turbo timer built in. Think this is standard on them and not an optional extra.

Turbo Timers are illegal so no alarm comes with them as standard. With Cliffirds it`s a case of adding a relay to one of the timed outputs on the alarm, this holds the ignition on for a set period of time. Other alarms can be configured to do it but you will lose your Thancham status if the insurance found out.

thats a new one on me!!?!?!?!?! not disagreeing, I certainly dont know any better.... just hadnt heard that before.......... any reason they are illegal?

Yep, if you leave your car running and walk away it`s classed as abandonment. If someone then takes your car in theory it`s not classed as theft as you have abandoned the car.

Eh..?

I sent my installation cert to them which says 'turbo Timer Fitted' and no complaint from them at all. Although you have a good point about leaving your car running, it is timed and you cant get far with a steering lock.

I have heard that insurers still have been obliged to settle theft claims even when keys are left in it (running) as theft is theft afterall. (perhaps the insurance Co's have closed the loophole now....Anyone on here in insurance to clarify that??)

I will of course  to your knowledge about the alarm sys....

By the way...I found a way to get into the valet code....dont know if you remember I contacted you about it..?

I fitted a manix pager alarm to mine with built in turbo timer and it is the nuts, take out the key and engine will run upto five mins after, also locks the doors 30 secs after you remove key, if you touch the brake pedal without the key in shuts evrything down and sounds the alarm, well chuffed with the alarm.

Where did you get it mate? Is it Thatcham approved??? Found out the 456Rli isnt so I now need to carry on my search! :p

Bob is right no alarm when fitted with turbo timer or remote start

is classed as a true cat 1, at the end of the day it is illegal to leave your engine running UNATTENDED, so like anything the insurers may accept the certificate but maybe a good clause for them to deny/reduce a claim depending on where it was stolen, obviously a turbo timer is meant to run for the set period, but your supposed to sit with the car, so maybe a case of being selective what you tell them;)
