How to get rid of CASTLEMEDIA and SEARCH MIRACLE on pc???

Techies please help....

How the hell do i get rid of CASTLEMEDIA and SEARCHMIRACLE from my pc:headvswal

I have tried ....Spybot / Noadare / Spydoctor / AVG / Zone Alarm / Spyware blaster / XoftSpy blah blah de blah blah and so on.

None of them work... :smash: infact after running severel complete system sweeps and file deletions it only seems to antagonise them and they come back with avengance :(

I have heard of them backing themselves up in the system re-boot files so they just re-install themselves.

HHHHHHHEEEEEEEELLLLLpppppppppppppppppppppp

OPPS ...sorry ...should of put this on the General Discution thread

What about Microsofts own beta spyware thing?

It does everything short of making a cup of tea!! I have the 2003 version with all the updates and when i first ran it i was told that there were 2196 threats/viruses on my computer. Its completely clean now!!

If i could work out how to send it to you i would?!

microsoft's spyware tool.. it will do the job no probs.. and it's free!

A commodity I am greatly short of today :)

All right, this sounds like a right swine. I'm fortunate enough not to have got infected with anything for the past year, but my old Windows 2000 box is (still) lousy with CoolWebSearch from goodness knows where (but I'd like to see it rise from the dead when I install gentoo over the top of it -- snee hee hee). Seriously, if you do manage to get it off without going down the route of a complete system re-install, which I'm inclined to think will be a struggle I'd recommend the following (I'm assuming you're on WinXP):

(i) Put your box behind some sort of hardware firewall. A router will do fine for this, wireless ones are great (you usually get a few ports for wired connections too) but switch the encryption on.

(ii) If you're on XP upgrade to SP2 and switch the firewall on.

(iii) Get Norton Internet Security Professional edition. You can choose whether to use the firewall with this or the XP firewall -- I honestly can't remember which one I'm using at the moment.

(iv) STOP (and I mean STOP) running Internet Explorer. Only run Internet Explorer for Windows Update (which you should run regularly: be anal, check for updates even when it doesn't prompt you), or websites that you absolutely HAVE to access using Internet Explorer.

(v) For everything else use Firefox: http://www.mozilla.org/. I'm not saying it's exploit free (there have been a few for which patches have been applied to the latest version), but there are nothing like the number available for hackers to exploit in IE. Note that if a site says you *MUST* use IE you can sometimes get away with changing the user-agent setting in Firefox (think this needs a plug-in) to tell it to lie to websites by telling them it's really IE and then they'll magically work.

That should sort you.

No worries. You're more than welcome. I know exactly how much of a hassle it is when you're PC starts messing you around. Work with the things all the time. Glad everything's sorted.
